turquoisestarchild Posted June 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2011 Hi everyone, After doing lots of reserarch online, I've decided to on a DIY in Athens. I've read about some different routes. We are there from 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. in July. I want to go to the Acropolis, Agora, possibly the New Musuem and Plaka. Possibly Lykavittos Hill. We are in our 30's and relatively fit. I'm planning to do the metro. Any advice on the order? Also, how do you get to Plaka and Lykavittos Hill? Thanks!
paul929207 Posted June 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2011 We were in Athens a few weeks ago on the Ocean Princess. Getting from the cruise terminal to the Acropolis is simple. Turn left out of the terminal and walk up to the street. Stop at a kiosk and get a bus/metro ticket. They were e0.70 each and good for 90 minutes after you activate it on a bus or metro. Take the 843 or 859 bus to the Metro station and then the metro to the acropolis. The Plaka is at the bottom of the acropolis. We just asked a tour guide and she pointed us in the right direction. Rare cruisemom42 Posted June 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2011 The first four sites are all in very close proximity. If the Acropolis is a big "must", I would recommend getting an early start and getting to the top of the Acropolis as early as possible to avoid the later morning crush -- it can get pretty bad. After that, I'd recommend seeing the Agora, then perhaps the Plaka and lunch, and finishing the the Acropolis Museum. I can't help with Lycabettus hill, haven't done it.
