Things Must Be A-OK for the Destiny

Well, I'm sitting here reading and checking and hardly anything comes up for the Destiny. I'll be on her in just a tiny bit over a month from now so I'm anxious for new news. I've already read the 'old' stuff and searched for all things Destiny ans I think the general C.C. public on this board would be happy to get some more information.

Since there seems to be so little information both good and bad, that I'm thinking everyone must be having the BEST CRUISE EVER on her! Let me hear it from those recently returned, how was your trip? Anything to watch out for or avoid??

LOVE Destiny! First in 2010 (5 day), then in 2011 (4 day), now booked for 12/12/2011 (5 day). Definately do the cabana at Half Moon Cay, the Chef's Table and the comedy club. Add a balcony & we have had the most relaxing cruises ever.:D This time, our 2nd aft wrap.:D:D

We were just on the Destiny in earlier this Month. We had a nice time, my only bit of advice is don't go with high expectations. If you do that you will have a good time. I think most disappointed Cruisers have unrealistic expectations. Just have fun & don't let the little things bother you. You will know what I mean when on the Ship. Have a great time ... :-)

Can you give some specifics? I am trying to decide between Carnival Destiny and Celebrity Millennium for a cruise on which I am taking my mother.

Thanks.

The OP will be on the ship in a month.and I will be on in Sept.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the expectations and the "little things"? Dying to hear more.

Thanks

I agree with that poster..We didnt go in with high expectations because of so many of the bad reviews we had read..We sailed the Destiny in December and we were so pleasantly surprised and had a Blast...the Comedian was very funny, Great Shows and our Kids it was their 1st cruise and just loved it...The Wait staff and the Hosts were excellent to our surprise, we had Anytime dining and every night we came in they sat us at our same booth with the same Wait Staff :) and the food also very surprised how excellent that was too..

we had an inside cabin and also couldnt believe how "big" it was for an inside as we were on an NCL and it was tiny to say the least...So just go walk on the ship look around have some lunch and enjoy :)

Thanks to all the posters. When I first started researching the ship I was getting a bit worried as most of the reviews were more negative than positive. Most of those reviews were written before March, so things seem to have gotten better.

I am getting excited now, looking forward to a nice cruise my expectations are never really high, I've cruised enough to know things are never perfect and I'm just happy to be on the ocean. This trip is: just some friends, a wedding party and relaxation is all that I am expecting. The other stuff is just icing.....

Oh and If you eat breakfast in the dining Room, Be sure to get a seat by the Window :) what a beautiful view of the ocean while having Breakfast!! Enjoy

Cool!

Does the buffet have an outdoor section near the aft of the ship? I like to eat out that way and not around the pool deck.

We just cruised the Destiny in April and had a WONDERFUL time. We would have no issue sailing again on the Destiny. We had two small issues one our electric in our room went on in the middle of getting ready for formal night and within 10 minutes they had it fixed. Our TV was broke and our it was fixed in just about same amount of time. We had our first balcony and now understand when people say once you have a balcony you'll never want anything other than that! We never once had an issue with the buffet line being long. We were on during spring break and there was not one single issue of unruly kids/adults. Every cruise has it issues but for us there was none. Have a wonderful cruise.

I will be sailing her on August 8th and cannot wait (GT, HMC, Nassau). I realized that the negative reviews came from people who, to me, were not voicing realistic complaints or those who just cannot seem to get beyond some of the small things that can occur on ANY type of vacation. To me..don't sweat the small things...just enjoy being on vacation (vs. sitting at a desk all day in front of a computer working and stressing).

I loved the fact that the Destiny broke world record with being the first ship to break the 100,000 tonnage barrier..how cool is that!

I sailed on Denstiny in late January 2011. A few weeks prior to our trip, she had been having problems with propulsion, thus getting into the ports late, causing problems with booked excursions, return flights, etc. (I was nervous, but glad it was brought to my attention so that I could have a "Plan B Attitude" ready.) She was dry docked in December, I believe; we had NO PROBLEMS on our cruise, and I havent heard of any since.

I traveled with a group of 11 and I think we all agreed that it was definitely not our favorite ship, nor our most amazing trip, but it wasnt so awful that we swore off the ship forever.

We felt that the crew, while pleasant and obliging, were rather unexcited about accommodating our basic requests. Perhaps it was the time of year, or the specific crew on board (we did learn that several of them were approaching the end of their term; getting ready to head home to their families), but it just wasnt the enthusiastic experience that we have always had in the past.

The ship layout was somewhat annoying, as on certain decks you cannot cross the length of the ship and have to ascend or decend to another deck to pass the obstacle. (I have heard the same about the Glory, too, though.)

Some people would make a fuss... but it wasnt a big enough problem for us to complain. Was it the 'perfect' vacation? No. Did I have a good time? Yes. Would I sail again on Destiny? Sure.

In fact all 'conquest' class ships have this issue - you cannot cross COMPLETELY on decks 3 and 4 due to the dining room/galley placement....you can cross on ALL OTHER DECKS OF THE SHIP so not too worry - easy enuf to figure out once you know where you're going! :D

Well thank goodness I'm on Deck 5! I guess I can walk all the way through. :p

Hmmm....no cabins on Deck 5 of the Destiny? (or are you planning to sleep in the casino or on the couches somewhere? :D)

Uh oh!

I was trying to figure out why my cabin number was 2105 and yet I was on Deck 5...

Sheesh, thanks for clearing that up for me, I would have been wandering around wondering what they did with all the portholes on that deck.
