monopoly at Pt. Canaveral????

Legally, it's only a monopoly if there is some negative effect to the consumer.

As taxis and taxi fares are heavily regulated by state and local governments, this should have no negative effect on the consumer. That is to say, there will be no difference in price or service. The cruise terminal is probably given a cut of the taxi profits from the cruiseport, and the taxi company is guaranteed business.

This probably isn't the best for other taxi drivers, but it's not really a monopoly.

New Orleans wouldnt allow hotel shuttle drivers to pick you up at the port, you have to grab a cab. .. though they are allowed to drop you off.

Our shuttle drivers used to pick up on the main road, Riverside? at the light, but our driver said the taxi's caught them and turned them in and they had to quit. Now they can only drop off at certain places and pick you up at designated places in the qtr. Getting worse.
