Karen, I have a dumb question. I see where you originally had Captain Sindre replacing Captain Claus on April 5 which, according to the web and catalog is when Radiance left Sydney to make her way back to the US.

 

Today I see that you have him starting his rotation on April 6?:confused: Did they overnight in Sydney for some unexpected reason?

 

Well, now I am too! Libby emailed me this morning (4-7) and said he left yesterday. :confused: :confused: So I changed it from the 5th to the 6th....

We watched a special on tv about the building of the Oasis......the captain was American,I think, but schooled in Norway......anyone know what happened to him or whether he is still with RCI?

You are referring to Capt. William (Bill) Wright.

Yes, he is still with Royal Caribbean. But, he is now SVP for Marine Operations, so not on any specific ship. His office is at the HQ in Miami, but he can often be seen onboard the various ships.

Doesn't he get to "drive" all the new ships first as SVP? As a sort of Captain of the Captains I had always likened him to Admiral for RCI. definitely great TV "presence".

rumor has it that he'll be going back to sea on a Radiance class ship for a couple of rotations. They have to actually master a ship every few years to keep their master mariner license.

Royal Caribbean's ships are registered in the Bahamas so the deck crew have to have Bahamian equivalencies of licensing from their home countries. I am sure that he also holds a US License considering that he was raised in south Florida and still has a home there. He has dual citizenship with Norway and the US.

I was expecting Captain Trym Selvag as Guest Services still had the Behind the Name Tag flyers stating he was the captain. I pointed out their error (after having our picture taking with Captain Thore) and they switched out the flyers while thanking me profusely. :p

I had a USCG license for 100 gt, inland waters of Puget Sound, and Canadian San Juans to Alaska. I gave it up many years ago, along with my Commercial Pilots license, including type ratings in 1995. And, yes I still have an operators certificate, but it's not good unless the log is certified.

 

Captain Bill Wright, has to do a certain amount of hours of PIC or command of a certain vessal, to keep his license current.

 

And, until he is ready to totally command a desk, he will make sure that his hours on the bridge are up to date!!:)
