I just have a few questions for people coming back to San Francisco recently:

1. How does she look? Some people have said it's time for drydock. Is Mercury in ok shape?

2. When is the earliest we can board? Our ship leaves at 5 p.m.

3. Where's a good place to meet up with our new CC friends after getting on board (before our actual party)?

4. Where's a good place to be for photo op of going under the Golden Gate?

5. When is muster? I really don't want it to interfere with sail away (photo ops).

Any other tips and information will be greatly appreciated.

THANKS! :D

Thanks for the bump! ;)

Although I have been searching all threads having to do with Mexican Riviera/Mercury, etc., I would like answers from people who have been on Mercury since yesterday, particularly since her home port is San Francisco now and that's where we'll be boarding. After reading other posts, I have pretty much concluded that people have been overreacting to her condition - so I don't care if this question gets answered.

Gosh I can't wait! :D

Hi,

we'll be on the Mercury the week before your cruise. I wouldn't worry much about her condition. Reports I have seen recently say she's just fine. Maybe everything doesn't look brand-new, but we're still getting the Celebrity experience: champagne on embarkation, great service, food and entertainment, etc. Who cares if the chairs in Michael's Club don't look brand-new or if the carpeting has a few rough areas? I've read the cabins are still in great shape. Don't worry! We'll leave the ship in great shape for you!

Don't forget to write when you get home. ;) And I've already decided she's just fine too. :) She's not brand new - who cares, huh?

I've been on the Mercury 3 times. The first time was in November of 2002 for a ship inspection in Miami. I was greeted as I walked onto the ship by a ships officer. I got a nice package about the ship and services offered. There was also a map of the ship and cabins that were available for my inspection. I was completely taken by the condition of the ship and the marvelous crew. I stopped at the Manhattan dining room and was invited to the lunch that was to be served to people doing a back to back cruise. I didn't really have the time and politely declined the invite. From what I've heard that was a big mistake, I should have taken the time to have lunch with the back to backers, it's supposedly a marvelous occassion.

I was overwhelmed with the inspection of the ship and soon after returning to California, I booked the 8 night cruise from SF to Vancouver for May of 2003. I must say this turned out to be my best cruise ever and I will always have a special warm fuzzy feeling about the Mercury. Every facet of the cruise experience exceeded my expectations.

I sailed again in October of 2003 on the RT Mexico cruise from SF. Again I was very pleased with every aspect of my cruise and look forward to sailing again on the Mercury.

We were on Mercury last october. We found it a real nice ship, no complaints on anything. (Only time went too fast).

Sailing from SF is great, you sail underneath Golden Gate. Go to one of the topdecks and you can see traffic and people very close.

We were sailing with great weather, but of course there is always the chance of fog.......

Muster was one house before sail-off, so it is finished before departure.

Enjoy your cxruise!

Celebrity Cruises really know how to do it. We just arrived back from an eight night cruise from San Francisco to Mexico and back from 2-12 to 3-20. We had an outside cabin on the Panaroma deck that was very nice. A bite small but nice. I was concerned about the age of the Mercury. But to my surprise it was in great shape. Of all the cruises we’ve been on I think this is one of the nicest. I’ve never had a bad cruise just some better then others.

The Mexican ports are the same as they always are…. Nothing to write home about but we enjoy the cruising just the same. What the Celebrity lines has to offer over other cruise lines is “that little extra” thing they do so well…… SERVICE. Here are some examples: when you arrive onboard you are greeted with champagne and orange juice. Also, the staff, no matter who they are, always seems to make a special effort to make eye contact with you and verbally greet you with a hello or good afternoon. Another “little extra” is the cold wet towels given to you as you return to the ship before boarding the tenders…. Just to freshen –up. Also, at the breakfast and lunch buffet you are always met by a staff waiter that carries your tray to the table for you. And last but not least is the FOOD and deserts. The food on the Celebrity is the best on the ocean by far. No one beats them when it comes to good eats…. And the deserts taste as good as they look.

I give the Mercury a 12 out of a possible 10.

Lastly, disembarkation …… in San Francisco…. They need help. It was a disaster.

Just because of the embarkation/debarkation I wouldn't give my criuses on the Mercury from SF more than an 11.:p

What is the problem?

I will have someone waiting and need to know what the hang up is?

We have a Sky Suite, do they disembark at different times?

I give it two snaps in a Z formation!I was hesitant after reading less than favorable reviews. Go enjoy your cruise, the ship is in fine shape. BTW, I really like the Celebrity Theater layout. Not really a bad seat in the house.

Persoanally, I didn't care for the cruise director, Dru Pavlov but he did a fair job and alswyas polite and well healed. I wish somday to have my first cruise director from RCCL. "Dan, Dan, the Party Man" He was better than the entertaiment and could deliver a joke like nobody else. I wonder if he's still around or if he got burned out.

Disembarkation is the one aspect of the cruise that is quite a bit out of the hands of the lines. Disembarkation can be delayed by the customs officers, immigration agents, the nice folk with the drug dogs, the dockworkers transferring the luggage, and probably a few other things I've forgotten. And, in some cases, the crew onboard will not know (or be able to tell you) why the delay is occurring (if the dogs just found something interesting in someone's bag, for example.)

In short, I've found the best thing to do is simply relax, and enjoy all those last moments on the ship... remember, the next day at home, probably no one will be picking up your towels or leaving chocolates on your pillow :D

Hi All,

We did Mercury in May, 2003 SF to Alaska ending up in Vancouver and thought she looked great. You can read my review on this site. We had arrived a day early to enjoy the city and took a cab to the dock where we dropped our bags off @ 10:30 AM and there were people lined up waiting to get on! After a long tour of Fisherman's Wharf we got on about 2:30 and the embarcation was a real pain. The worst organized we have seen. But once on, we received our glass of champagne and were escorted to our room and it was ok.

The best view of the Golden Gate is on the aft and top deck of the ship. We got great pictures leaving. It was chilly and windy though. You pass quite close to Alcatraz too. This was our first time on Mercury and she compared well w/Century. Summit to Hawaii in 2006 and can't wait.

THANKS! :D

We sailed on her in Sept. 2004 to Alaska, and she's in GREAT shape! Jesus, folks... she's not an old tub, y'know! This is a beautiful classy ship! Great crew, too. Just because she doesn't have outside glass-enclosed elevators and a 12-floor atrium doesn't mean she's got lint in her navel.

We're taking her again on 3/30/05 down the Mexican Riviera. We've been there before, years ago, but we live in SF and now feel we 'know' this ship and her crew and can't wait to 'do' Cabo again.

Hope you have time to enjoy our beautiful San Francisco, too.
