Highbypass Turbofan Posted July 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2011 I just pulled up out Itinerary for the cruise and it looks like they cancelled on of our ports (Mazatlan I think, cant remember original ininerary) and added a 2 day in Cabo. Don't know everyone else's thoughts, but I always feel cheated by sitting in a port for 2 days. I'd rather be cruising. But it's not a total suprise as I heard some ports were being cancelled and rerouted. I figured it would be PV. I have not recieved any emails or notifications from Carnival, but some of their email doesn't get through for one reason or another. Not even anything in my spam folder. If I shop for the cruise on the Carnival website, it still shows Mazatlan.

If there is high winds, seas the next day, you may not tender.
Durangler Posted July 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2011 Just checked our Oct 30 sailing. Yep.... itinerary change. 2 days in Cabo, No Mazatlan. So, what happens to the excursions I've reserved, through the ship? The dates have all changed! Very dissappointed.
iamirish Posted July 8, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2011 They cancelled Mazatlan and added another boring day in Cabo. I have not been told about this change. I booked this cruise because it would be in PV on November 2nd - for the “dia de los Muertos” celebrations. Now the ship will not be in PV until 11/3 - one day too late!! I am soooooo :mad::mad:
LucyR. Posted July 8, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2011 Mazatlan has been a dangerous port for the last few years due to the Drug lord shoot-outs in public places in the day time. It is a known fact that Mazatlan port is a importing/exporting of drugs port. China drops off Opiam drugs and Mexico exports cocaine. That port is lawless since most of the cops are crooks. All of the taxi cab drivers have to give them some money when they return cruisers back to the ships. I speak Spanish and the taxi driver told me they have to give them money. Their cops also barracade the street so the taxi can't escape. I know that the cruise lines have tried to stay loyal to Mazatlan but it is too dangerous now. Some Americans have disappeared and have never been seen again when they visit Mexico. Yes, I am going to miss Mazatlan.... but I prefer to be safe. My advise to cruisers from other states and countries is to not cruise with this changed itinerary because if Cabo gets turbulant seas it will not even stop in Cabo. You will be wasting your money if the ports are important to you. I have decided to find land vacation alternatives instead of cruising as much as I have been cruising to the Mexican-Riviera. It costs too much money to cruise for just a couple of ports. I don't think it is worth it on Carnival ships.
harryfat1 Posted July 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2011 Not surprising at all, given that other cruise lines have cancelled Mazatlan already. If you look at the Princess' Mexico sailing, they canceled both PV and Mazatlan and substitute it with Ensenada (personally I think that's a bad trade off but maybe others will think it's good). Disney also does the double Cabo stop for their fall sailing as well after they bypassed Matalan earlier this year. So Carnival is just following the rend. Wouldn't be surprising if HAL, Carnival's subsidiary, follows suit and cancels Mazatlan as well.
QTPieRye Posted July 8, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2011 I am not surpirsed about this~ we are cruising on the Splendor in January and I am not expecting Mazatlan to be on the itinerary.... it seems they are pushing back the date further and further. I just wish they would remove it so that we can plan our non CCL excursions properly. Fortunately, most non CCL companies are aware of this and are good about working with passengers for date changes~
zanydoc Posted July 8, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 8, 2011 We are booked on the Oct 21 Spirit to Mexican Riviera. So, Mazatlan is probably cancelled for us as well? I don't see any information on the Carnival website stating that it is. How did you find out about your Splendor Mazatlan stop being cancelled? With 2 days in Cabo, can I choose what day to do our excursion that was booked thru the ship?

I don't see any information on the Carnival website stating that it is. How did you find out about your Splendor Mazatlan stop being cancelled? It's in "Manage My Cruise" "My Itinerary" page. Starlight Durban Cruising Posted July 8, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 8, 2011 We are booked on the Oct 21 Spirit to Mexican Riviera. So, Mazatlan is probably cancelled for us as well? I don't see any information on the Carnival website stating that it is. How did you find out about your Splendor Mazatlan stop being cancelled? Log in on your account and it should show up there. When I logged in on my account it shows the change for Splendor. Also for Splendor they have reversed the direction, so - 2day sail/PV/Maz/Cabo/1day sail, has just changed to: - 1 day sail/Cabo/Cabo/PV/2 day sail. Sigh. We had hoped to spend Sept 16th in Cabo (Mexican Independence Day), but will now be at sea. :(
zanydoc Posted July 8, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 8, 2011 Thank you for the info--I logged in to my account and it still states Mazatlan as a port of call. We already have 2 days in Cabo since it is a 9 day itinerary...I wonder what they would do if they cancel Maz? Surely not another day in Cabo! I'd take another day in PV, though! :)
prchoudh Posted July 8, 2011 #13 Share Posted July 8, 2011 I was comparing the same thing and decided to go on the Valor for $600 more even when it included air. The pulled Mazatlan sometime ago. I heard through the rumor mill that they are bringing it back. I also heard that Princess will not be going to Mazatlan nor Puerto Vallarta so, you might want to take that into consideration. bonnie&clydecruzers Posted July 8, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 8, 2011 So I checked our 9 night Oct 21 cruise and it stills shows Mazatlan as a port but this is on the Spirit. Then I checked our January 2012 cruise on the Splendor and , Yes they have removed MAZ and added a 2nd day in Cabo. Will the Spirit cruise to Maz but not the Splendor? boaterette Posted July 8, 2011 #19 Share Posted July 8, 2011 Glad the 9 day on spirit did away with La Paz. You had to take a bus ride into town and there was nothing there. What a boring port.
riffatsea Posted July 8, 2011 #20 Share Posted July 8, 2011 La Paz was a GREAT port! I loved my sea kayaking there and we loved the town since it is not overly touristy yet!! I was on the 9 day on the Spirit last March when they first started canceling Mazatlan. It caused a lot of commotion but turned out OK. THIS year I am on the same cruise but it looks like they are canceling all the ports I like!!!

jaydubya Posted July 9, 2011 #23 Share Posted July 9, 2011 I also received an email from Carnival today about the itinerary change, effective for Splendor 7-day Mexican Riviera from 9/4/11 through 11/20/11, 12/4/11 and 12/11/11. Mon - sea day Tue - Cabo, 9:30 - 6:00 Wed - Cabo, 7:00 - 4:00 Thurs - PV, 9:00 - 9:00 Fri - sea day Sat - sea day "Pre-purchased excursions will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment." Hope this helps answer some of your questions. Regards,
Jenbo57 Posted July 9, 2011 #24 Share Posted July 9, 2011 Me thinks there is more to this than meets the eye. Carnival played hardball with the tender operators in Belize; perhaps there's something going on in Mazatlan that we don't know about. Easy to blame anything these days on violence. I have friends with family in Mazatlan; I'm going to get them digging...
pmc7704 Posted July 9, 2011 #25 Share Posted July 9, 2011 What do ya'all think about Acapulco ??? What are the odds that my cruise on the Paradise in November will make this stop, or will it also be cancelled. And if it's not, should I get off the ship ?????
