mountainhouse Posted March 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Got a call from my TA today. Seems the 3/26 sailing of the Grand is overbooked, and Princess was offered an oceanview, and a $1224 onboard credit. I was really tempted, but it's too close now. I've been dreaming about this cruise too long, and part of that dream, is standing on my own balcony in the morning. I guess I'm crazy. But, you only go around once, right? :)

newkim Posted March 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2005 was just on my CB balcony last week but for the credit they are offering you I would take it............... then just imagine that the whole Promenade Deck was my own balcony and use the credit to buy myself something really nice in the shops.............. Mona Lisa Posted March 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2005 I know exactly what you mean. When you long for something for so long and picture it just so, it's hard to change it at the last minute and be just as satisfied. I bet you wish that the offer had never been made. Last year, we were offered a deal to bump from the Golden to the Caribbean Princess on a different sailing weeks later. It was so hard to say yes, but I just couldn't pass up the shipboard credit and the upgrade. I was just wishing that the offer would have never been put on the table. It was too good to pass up but so very hard to accept You must have more willpower than me. Lisa
Reneek Posted March 22, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Giving up the increased square footage in the bathroom/bedroom/sittingroom and balcony with two adults and two teen girls would be a tempting offer when compensation would be $1200. However, it was the difference between a place to sleep vs a place of comfortable relaxation which made our trips so enjoyable. Though the $1200 would come close to paying our onboard tab, I would have to be guaranteed a really nice upper level interior cabin to give up my mini suite. What accomodations are they offering? mountainhouse Posted March 22, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted March 22, 2005 What accomodations are they offering? The TA only mentioned an oceanview room. This is only my 2nd cruise, but you've all done a good job educating me. My immediate thought was.... obstructions! Maybe they could have made assurances .... just been thinking about this too long. I guess this proves these offers can happen to anyone, since this will be my first Princess cruise.
Dreamer333 Posted March 22, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2005 My first thought was that I would take the deal in a heartbeat... I asked my husband what he would want to do, and he said he would NOT take it! He made a pretty good point... It is not as tho you would be getting the cash... There is only so much alcohol you can buy, and only so much to buy in the shops. (Although techically, I guess you can cash the remainder out in the casino for a charge). My TA said that any credit on my onboard account, at the end of the cruise, is credited back to my Visa card that I secured it with. Is that not correct? tjatczak Posted March 22, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Don't forget, if I read correctly, there are 4 of you in the cabin, that is $280 ALONE in gratuities, so the remaining $1000 would not be tough to spend, a few pictures, a shore tour or 2, I would take this offer in a HEARTBEAT, but then again, it is just what your preferences are???? Is that not correct? I'm not sure about the credit that you used a Visa to secure with... On my last cruise, I had some shipboard credit given to me by Princess for various reasons (booking credit, referral credit) and the pursers desk told me if I didn't use it, it would be lost. But that should be different than the shipboard credit that you charged to your Visa.
Rare geoherb Posted March 22, 2005 #12 Share Posted March 22, 2005 I'd take the money and switch. Balcony cabins are nice, but we'll gladly book a cruise into an inside or outside cabin when the price differential is more than we're willing to pay. We saved enough with an obstructed view cabin on our Alaskan cruise to book a balcony cabin for the Caribbean five months later. We would not have taken two cruises that year if we had splurged for the balcony cabin in Alaska. And two cruises are better than one.
Splatitudes Posted March 22, 2005 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2005 yeah, I'd take the credit, just because it's SO much and all week i'd feel like I was spending house money... i'd be throwing that stuff around like you would't believe :)... but I totally understand your desire to stay on that balcony.. it's all in how each individual cruises, I suppose! :)
Princess Chatterer Posted March 22, 2005 #14 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Let me get this straight. Princess collects final payments for more cabins than they physically have. How do they do this? Doesn't each final payment get a cabin number? Do they assign the same cabin number multiple times?
SHayesShip Posted March 22, 2005 #15 Share Posted March 22, 2005 MANY cabins are booked on a guaranteed basis where there is no assigned cabin until closer to sailing date. Murphey Posted March 22, 2005 #16 Share Posted March 22, 2005 I've always been told that any unused shipboard credit was lost. Can anyone clarify this? Thanks. Last fall, due to alot of different things, we ended up with alot of SBC. The last night we checked our bill and found we had another $72 to spend. We were buying things left and right and had a few Martini's to boot. It was hilarious,, like we were on a shopping spree. Would have been nice to roll it over to a future cruise, or cash back. Not that it wasn't fun, but we spent $ on things we wouldn't have normally done. I think we'd take the cash and splurge on shore excursions and wine with dinner!! Nice to get off the ship with no bill!!
Mona Lisa Posted March 22, 2005 #17 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Although we spent all our SBC, Princess stated many times that any funds not spent would be credited to our card on file. This may only be the case if Princess is making a deal to move you to another cabin and/or sailing. I don't think it applies if you have accrued SBC from other means such as TA booking promotions. hendey47 Posted March 23, 2005 #18 Share Posted March 23, 2005 Princess asked me to switch from the Dawn, March, 20th sailing, I am suppose to be sailing now but could not refuse the offer. I had booked an inside on the Dawn and they were going to give me b2b on the Caribbean Princess a balcony Cabin on each and a total of $500. dollars sbc. I was not able to go b2b so they switched me to 6/25 and 7/16 which i did. They also increased my sbc to a total of $850 since I had $350 from the Dawn. so now I have 600 on the 6/25 and 250 on the 7/16 with balcony cabins (ba cat). How could I have refused this offer. I booked late, and had to stay on top of my booking to finally snag a Caribe balcony when one came available. Luckily, DH agreed with me - this is our last vacation for a while, and there's no way we could give up that balcony. Besides, his parents are coming with us, and they have an OV, so we're looking forward to the 4 of us relaxing on that huge balcony.
