cvpends Posted July 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2011 I'm trying to decide whether to bring a coat or jacket, or if a light sweater is enough. Will it be cold outside at night in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean? We're leaving on July 30. Thanks in advance for your advice!
jennim Posted July 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2011 It couldn't hurt to bring a light one but I doubt it, if anything, most likely it will be windy...
Texarribean Chick Posted July 20, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Not cold at all outside - chances are the MDR and Casino will be colder than outdoors.
missypriss19 Posted July 20, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2011 You did not say when you are cruising. But It can get a little chilly up on open decks at night with the wind sometimes but a light jacket should do.
golfadj Posted July 20, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2011 DW brings light sweater for DR, outside is usually warmer.
tattoos Posted July 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2011 One item of clothing that I packed when I cruised in May was a rain jacket with a hood that folds up into a little ball and never looks wrinkled. It poured in St. Thomas and this light jacket was perfect for walking around in the shopping area without getting totally soaked. They sell very inexpensive ponchos with hoods in Wal-mart and Target but they seem to hold in the heat too much and I'm dry but sweating. My little, light rain jacket was perfect and when it stopped raining, I tied it around my waist.

Will it be cold outside at night in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean? We're leaving on July 30. Thanks in advance for your advice! It will most likely be hot and humid. You may want a wrap for inside the ship if you're sensitive to air conditioning. But in July you won't need it for cool temps outside.

cdamion Posted July 20, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Go ahead and bring a light jacket, but it is very unlikely you will need it at night that time of the year. If anything if you are the type that gets cold easily, you may find some of the interior venues chilly, especially compared to the outside air. nolababe504 Posted July 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2011 July and August is hot and humid!! You def. do not need a jacket outside:) Inside the ship for the MDR or casino area you might want to bring a light jacket/sweater if you are very cold natured, but besides that you just need shorts and flip flops!! Leave all the other stuff home!! Have a good cruise!! We have even sailed in Feb. and March and never had to have a jacket for outside. It's always warm:)
cvpends Posted July 20, 2011 Author #11 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Thank you for all of your replies. I'll bring a sweater for the airplane and inside, and stop worrying about it being cold outside :) It's nice to know what to expect!

nodogkisses Posted July 21, 2011 #13 Share Posted July 21, 2011 They sell Pashminas for $10 in the shops onboard in every color imaginable. Very nice quality and just the right weight for taking the chill off your arms/shoulders in the MDR and also anywhere else inside the ship in the evening after getting too much sun during the day--you know how you're chilled at night from sun. And, the outside decks at night are sometimes windy--that pashmina comes in handy. Can also be worn as a scarf. They are very nice.
Wayfairers Posted July 21, 2011 #14 Share Posted July 21, 2011 I agree with the suggestions to bring a light sweater or wrap to wear inside the MDR or other places inside the ship. They like to over air-condition.
BlueJacketsFan1 Posted July 21, 2011 #15 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Not in my opinion, but my wife does like to have a sweater or something to sometimes use on the ship at night. Some of the lounges and things can get a little cool.
