Tipping room service attendant

I know this is a common thread on CC but I've searched and haven't quite found what I was looking for.

 

How much do you tip your room service attendant per visit?

 

$1 or $2 depending on size of order.

$2 seems to be pretty common, but I think Ill stick to the one dollar bills H82seaUgo, haha!

I just answer the door in the buff..if that's not a tip, then I don't know what is!!

I tipped my room service attendant kisses :p. DH likes to go to the buffet (he had only cruised on Princess and they had 24-hr buffet), and brings me food to the cabin. Kidding aside, we usually tip $2-$3.

the first time we cruised the room service people would literally leave so fast after they dropped off the tray it never even crossed my mind to tip they would literally hand us the tray smile nod and walk away.. I just figured carnival must disperse our auto tips to those who serviced us. but then our second crusie when we ordered it the first night of our cruise the person sorta lingered around so then we figured he must want one.. so after that we started tipping a buck or two depending on what we got.. and will continue to do so

It is easier to carry 20 two’s than 40 one’s. We find two’s at banks or stores. Just ask. But this isn’t about what size of bills to use it’s how much. We usualy base the tip on the number of plates that are carried into the cabin. Also pitchers of drinks. Most of the time it is around four dollars. We also usualy keep a few bills in the top drawer in the cabin that way everyone knows were the room service tip money is. We use room service at least once a day.

being a full 4 course meal tip is $1.66, i tip room service anywhere from a quarter, to a dollar for a meal.

Gezz did someone say a quarter.Check were the galley is.Think about that 75lb little girl that shows up with that heavy tray.I might me wrong,but we have seen alot of them using the stairs with those trays instead of the elevators.I think if one can put out $2000+ for a cruise, 2 or 3+ bucks is very cheap.CHEAP.

I was a delivery boy 35 years ago and was upset with a quarter tip back then. If it takes them ten minutes to get to your cabin (round trip) that is a whole $1.50/hr.

 

I get a cup of coffee sitting at the counter in a diner and leave a buck.

While I agree with you in spirit that people should tip a buck or two for room service, I have a question: Why give that silly scenario as a reason to tip?

 

In other words, what if the opposite is true? What if a 200lb strapping young waiter delivers a light tray containing only a cup of coffee and danish to my cabin located near the galley, and uses the stairs to do it, should I tip less?

We tip 1 to 5 dollars, depending on amount ordered. 2 dollars for coffee and croissant in morning. 3- 4 dollars if more than that ordered for breakfast and same for lunch if I am solo, if two at lunch, than 5.00, but have not tipped more than 5.00, and only had room service for 2 at the most.

I am by no stretch of the imagination a well off person, but from what I've read these workers come from very impoferished places, and they stay away from home about 6 mo. at a time just to support thier families. So when I order room service I give a $5 tip, and try to leave my room stewards a healthy tip as well, rather help them support thier families than give it all to the cruiseline. Altho, I do make a healthy donation in the casino! lol Just my opinion.

you are confusing waiters with room service delivery people. they are not on the same pay scale.
