Recived "THE CALL" this morning...... OS here we come!

Recommended Posts

WE have been upgraded by cruise line in the past. Had paid for a basic balcony and received the Owners Suite. There is no additional money paid - that is the great thing about it. We were asked to consider paying the room steward and additional 50 cents a day. Considering we had a diningroom, 2 bathrooms and all the extras that was a small price to pay. Cabin closet alone was 16 feet!

I find that hard to believe?

Sounds wonderful! Unfortunately (well really fortunately) we received an upsell which involves money unlike an upgrade. What really blows me away is 50 cents a day, I hope that was per person, LOL, as the costs we'll incur for additional tipping will probably amount to just as much as the upsell:eek: But well worth it for all of the attention that is lavished on NCL suite guests.

I am seriously doubting the previous post.

We got the upsell to the OS on the Star in March, you will love love love it. Get your booze, snacks, show seating, tender tickets, coffee machine, vip boarding, disembarking, Butler for anything you might need, we loved having in suite dining. We had a Bridge tour with the Meet and Greet. Awesome. We loved the front facing balcony and we did use it when the ship was underway and even saw a whale jump right in front of us, then a pod of several hundred dolphins. Very cool. The side balcony was also great. The bathroom is great too. Walk in closet, wow it just keeps going. Have a great time.

First thanks for all the congrats....

Though we were originally in a suite that I really was looking forward to, the aft, I had read a thread that said in Bermuda the Gem butts up against another ship, and I was kind of disappointed not having the full ocean view from our balcony for these 2 1/2 days. Definitely not a deal breaker for this cabin, but did put a damper on things as I was really looking forward to aft (but we do have the aft PH booked for next June to Bahamas so I'll get to experience this coveted cabin then).

Another contributing factor in making our decision was the fact that after I booked this cruiseI found out that a NYC radio station, Z100, was going to be hosting and celebrating their 30th Anniversary on this sailing and saw in the list of activities they posted on their itin. lots of poolside music and games, etc., etc., and feared that the pool area, which is usually a difficult area to find seating, would be beyond impossible on this sailing. As this was the week we could squeeze in for vacation, there really was no going back for us. The private courtyard and pool was definitely a major selling point for this upsell.

Though an OS sounds amazing, I would have been perfectly content in our original cabin choice as we sailed the PH Suite in April, 9500 all the way forward, and absolutely loved it and the huge private balcony and would not have spent the additional money on this upsell.

Now speaking of money, we originally paid 1899 pp for aft PH and they offered the upsell for $375 additional pp, total of $750, which seemed well worth it for my reasons above! I did try to get them to bring the price down, countered at $500, they declined, tried to negotiate $600, they declined and was told that they do not set the pricing.

Also, like the free bar set up,:D but could have easily purchased this on my own for way less money, LOL!

Just hoping that this suite may bring us a little closer to the possibility of being invited on a complimentary bridge tour, any thoughts on this?;)

Is priority seating in the showroom available with this cabin, anyone?

I will be sure to post all about our week on the Gem (love this ship and crew) once we return.

Thanks so much for posting pricing details. Not that it would ever happen to us because we just book regular cabins but I am tired of reading about all those that do and then nobody explains the details.

I can see why for $750 you would chose to upgrade, sounds like you got a great deal.

Congrats, Phyllis on your OS upsell. Can I ask you if you booked through a NCL PCC, CAS or a TA? Have a great cruise.

Hey, how are you and more importantly how was your cruise? I'm sure you must have had a great time. How did you enjoy seeing Sinan again? Did you do a review yet? Can't wait to read it.

This trip I booked directly with NCL, was considering switching to CAS but decided not to since you never can get an upsell call with a CAS booking, and unless CAS initially offers you an upsell (which they did last year), chances are we wouldn't be offered any at a later date (unless they felt I was a HUGE asset to the casino's bottom line)! Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for posting pricing details.

No problem, I sometimes get a little frustrated when someone comes on the boards with their upsell but no pricing info, but thanks to the many that have, it gave me an idea on how to negotiate, not that it did any good in this case, but just paying it forward!

Was on 7/10 GEM cruise. Went through same process. Received Upsell call 10 days before cruise. Moved from Aft Penthouse to OS 9504. You will LOVE suite. Def worth the extra cash. Butler service and VIP perks were great.

May I ask who your butler and room steward were. Also, believe Ryan Rabe (concierge) was on vacation for your sailing, who was, and how was, his replacement? Thanks!:)
