Can you still order a bottle of liquor for your cabin?

I recall that NCL allowed you to order a bottle(s) of liquor ahead of time, to be waiting for you in your cabin.

We did it on our first NCL cruise, but after that we didn't because, frankly, they raised the price too much. I don't mind them making a profit, but at the time I thought it was outrageous.

However, I'm wondering if they offer this service still?

If they do, anyone know what the prices are?

We did on the Sun in Oct.2010. E-mail groupevent(your ship)@ncl.com They will sent you a price list. Hold on to pants. Prices are Steep. I believe I paid $83 dollors for bottle of Jack. But I know my drinks were made to my taste. Enjoy...

I just set this up for us for our 8/19 Dawn sailing. They no longer send out price lists. You have to tell them what you want, then they'll tell you if it's available and what it will cost.

Lower tier alcohols like Smirnoff and Beefeaters are $63/liter, higher tier like Absolut and Bombay Sapphire are $83/liter. They did not have Stolichnaya or Tanqueray. (We only asked about vodka and gin.) I think that tax must be included in that price as there was no mention of it being added on.

True, these prices are more than a little steep, but with cocktails easily going for $7-10 plus 15% auto gratuity in onboard bars, I think that the bottles are still going to save us a little bit. Not to mention, we enjoy stirring up our own and stepping right out onto the balcony instead of having to run upstairs or downstairs to bring them back to the cabin.

Oh, and you probably know this, but just in case... Mixers are not included, so be sure to bring anything you particularly want. NCL is all Pepsi products, so if you want Coke BYOB. Also, if you like fruity drinks, bring along one or two small bottles that you can fill with OJ or cranberry at breakfast and keep in your fridge for later. We also like to bring insulated tumblers, a jigger, etc... Have fun!

I'm surprised prices haven't went up. We paid $63/litre (before the service charge was added) for Smirnoff (triple distilled) in 2008. I believe all the're booze is in Litre's. Grey goose back then was $109. But,.........if'n you're going to mix it......no difference. I think they have to be ordered 2 weeks prior to your cruise.

Grey Goose is currently $103, Absolut is $83. I just ordered a set up this past Monday.

I know about the mixers.:( The first time we ordered they had a "set up charge" which I thought included mixers, but it didn't. I thought, for what they're charging, would it kill them to throw in a few cans of tonic.

Well I suppose you're paying (a lot) for convenience.

You could also go with rum runners and take your own on board. If you are already thinking of smuggling mixers on, why not save your self, $63, $83, $103 + $3 setup charge by taking your own alcohol.

I was wondering if the bar setup included Beer? For instance could I get a case of beer for the room and keep 6 cold at all times in the fridge?

yes the price is high $60 plus $3 service for standard brands but figure out how many drinks that is: it is about 20 drinks (dependin on the strenght) $20 times $6.00 is a lot more than $60 plus on the $6.00 you would have gratuities. We always like the idea of having a drink or two in our cabin at night.

Yes you can definitely still order bar setup. I was just in contact with them about this and they emailed the price list to me. I didn't think they would do this since everyone says they don't, but surprise!

If anyone's interested, I can try to get that posted on here when I get home tonight.

Sammae, thank you for offering to try to post the NCL bar setup list

I would be interested to know what is on the list, particularly what bourbons they offer, as well as to know whom to contact to place an order. I am not certain if I should contact my TA, email what an above poster shared "groupevent(your ship)@ncl.com" or otherwise

Interesting, just a week or so ago, they would not send me a list, so we had a series of "Do you have this? What does it cost?" emails back and forth. Not a big deal, but it seems like it would've been easier for the NCL rep if he could have just sent me a list and let me pick what I wanted. Maybe different policies for different ships? But I can't imagine why they'd do that.

According to the rep I worked with, beer cannot be pre-ordered like the hard stuff. I'd have liked to have a few cold ones waiting for us, but no luck.

Twice my hubby ordered beer with the bar set up and it was in the cabin when we arrived. (Same price as the bucket of beer price). That was a couple of years ago and since then they have not honoured that request. To solve the problem, hubby just gets a bucket of beer and the steward keeps it on ice which -- trust me -- keeps the beer much colder than the little fridge. Just repenlish as needed and you still have a cold beer when you want.

I'm reading this thread with interest - we'd also like to have a few cold beers or spirit on ice for a night cap on the balcony! On our Carribean cruise we did bring a bottle of our unique rum - Screech - for our friends to taste! Never used the rum runners before, so just wondering if they will be confiscated, or if they are easily reconizable on the scanners?? We are quite happy to buy from the bar when we're socializing on board, but would just like to have a "

" Sociable" nitecap in our cabin . Your experienced opinion is appreciated!!

I've used the rum runners once on the jewel. The directions tell you to fill them 3/4 of the way full and put them at the bottom of your luggage, then the bladder basically forms to the luggage and is not recongizable in x-rays, although I dont even think the cruise lines x-ray but I could be wrong. When we were in NYC we saw all the luggage go from the porter, onto a skid and loaded right into the side of the boat. maybe they scan it in there, or maybe they dont. Either way, are rum runners were in our room waiting for us mid-afternoon.

We have used rum runners on Carnival once...no problem. We lent them to friends of ours on a Carnival and again, no problem. We did follow the instructions ...put them near the wheels and we also put our toiletries around the sam area. They are a wonderful thing. Now if only the ship served lemonade as a free beverage. We will have to bring a little pitcher and some powder lemonade so keep in our room.

Actually the suggestion to fill them 3/4 full has more to do with air pressure within the aircrafts cargo area which may or may not be pressurized. Filling them full may cause them to rupture. That extra 1/4 capacity allows for expansion and contraction due to varying pressures.

Just basic Physics.

Holy Cow!!! Those are some VERY steep prices indeed!! I ordered a bottle of Beefeaters on my last Carnival cruise and it was $40...I thought that was kinda steep, but, it is what it is.....BUT $60??!! whoa...........

That is the one thing that I like about Carnival vs NCL....each (adult) is allowed to carry on a bottle of wine...and each person (regardless of age) is allowed 12 can/bottles of non-alcoholic beverage (soda, juice, water)....and you can order bottles of liquor for less (obviously).....(and their cabins are bigger too) (please, no stone throwing, I bruise easily)...

This year, we are cruising NCL as guests of CAS....so, we get free drinks (in the casino, while gambling)....so, I'm all set (for the most part)....

I've read a few places on these boards, that if you are member of CAS, and don't recieve a cruise offer....you can still call and see if they have any deals available for you...in some cases, they will offer you 20% off the price of the cruise....and I would assume* that would make you a CAS guest, therefore drinks in the casino for free?? (*you know what they say about assuming).....
