What do you do for motion sickness ?

I do get seasick very easy, and I have found that the Non-Drowsy formula of Dramamine is my best friend, along with Ginger capsules.

I used the TransdermScop patches on one cruise, and on about the 5th day I lost about 60% of my vision (in addition to the dry mouth, which everyone who uses them complains about). The vision loss lasted about 3 weeks. It happened so gradually that I hadn't realized it until I went parasailing...very freightening. I did go to an eye specialist upon our return, and he said it is a fairly common side effect. It was really a bummer not being able to drive!

I tried dramamine once (non drowsy) and it made me like a zombie and didn't help near as much as the bonine (which DID NOT ever make me drowsy). I just chewed 1 every evening and was fine each day.

I can't do the patch cause of glaucoma. It's not good for glaucoma patients.

OKay.. so much good info I think I will try everything, all at the same time! I will wear patches and seabands, take ginger, ginger pills, candy coated ginger, ginger drops, eat an apple then take regular dramamine and non drowsy dramamine and bonine with some alcohol, take off my glasses then go out for some frsh air then look at the horizon then close my eyes for a while.. then go back to my sideways turned bed and put some bryonia drops under my tongue then take some meclazine before I have som gin-gins !

My husband had problems in December because of very rough seas (evidently many passengers and quite a bit of the crew was sick). DH never got "throw up" sick, but he had some intense vertigo. He mostly laid in bed for two days and took an occasional seasick pill. I took him ginger ale and and green apples, but mostly I stayed in the casino. I don't say that to be mean! :) But seriously, my queasiness was slight enough that sitting and staring at a slot machine was enough to take my mind off of it.

I keep hearing about these ginger pills or ginger candy. Where do I find these? And does the ginger candy have a strong ginger taste?

I've bought ginger pills at GNC. Works great! My daughter used to get sick every trip until we discovered this trick. Starting 2 days prior to sailing, take 1 a day, then when on board, take 1 in the morning, 1 at night. She hasn't been sick since.

I take loratadine daily because my ears get congested due to allergies which actually takes away my constant dizzies..I will still take that on the ship. After much research, I've just ordered motion eaze (some pretty great reviews on many websites including amazon) & thanks to CC members I thought I would take one or two ginger capsules a day too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, we got a midship room & I was really scared to try the scolpamine patches again. There are some super freaky side effects, & I'm definitely sensitive, so I dont want to take any chances.

Less Drowsy Dramamine and Bonine are the same thing...both 25mg of meclizine!

I am rine on the cruise ship - but went on a catamaran trip & thought I was going to be sick. I had Ginger Gum with me & chewed that- it saved me! I found it at Rite Aid - near the bracelets (which didn't do anything for me) and the bonine

Well non drowsy dramamine made me spaced out...

Bonine did not affect me at all but made it so I didn't feel at all queezy.

Not sure why if they are the same? But I'll do with what works LOL

You are right they are the same! When I take generic meclizine it makes me sleepy, when I take chewable Bonine it doesn't seem to make me sleepy. Same thing go figure?

I am also a Bonine user (just picked up a box for our cruise in 12 days!!!)

The trick that I've learned over our last few cruises was to take a pill a couple days before we set sail and then one a day for the length of the cruise. Has worked for me.

We buy ours from Walmart in the vitamin area.
