liketraveling Posted August 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Does anyone have any experience with Tarton Tours in Sydney Nova Scotia. I checked their website and they have a four hour tour to the Fortress of Louisbourg. Has anyone ever used them. Thanks,

maryann ns Posted August 7, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2011 From my notes of previous posts: http://www.tomsportguides.com/Sydney-06-10-2011.pdf great site but he has not been to Louisbourg and it should be mentioned that the best part of the Cabot Trail is past Ingonish. route from pier in Sydney through Baddeck and Iona and back to Sydney http://*******/maps/Pq2Z Louisbourg and car rental: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1401285 http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/ns/louisbourg/index.aspx Louisbourg site ……. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1450281 We used City Wide Taxi in Sydney. Met us as we exited the ship with sign. Kent was our driver. He was excellent. His van held 7 people; he took us to Louisbourg waited and then took us back to the ship. He even stopped twice so we could get coffee from Tim Hortons. I highly recommend him. We spoke directly to him before the trip. We were on a Princess cruise which arrived at 1:00 pm. You can imagine the mad dash to get off. While there are taxis available all were gone by the time we got out. But, Kent was there waiting for us. The cost for the taxi and admission was less that the ship's tour and we able to stay longer at the fort. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=828325&page=3 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1250240 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1415924
liketraveling Posted August 7, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Does the tour go anywhere else besides the Fortress? http://tartantours.guided-tours.ca/Tours_Offered According to this you can schedule anyone of 5 tours or what you want. It is stated that the fortress is a 4 hour tour. I had read posts earlier about renting a car - I don't want that hassle. or using City wide taxi for the fortress. I came across this website and I have never seeen it mentioned here. Trying to see if anyone had used them.

travelbig Posted August 7, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 7, 2011 I came across this website and I have never seeen it mentioned here. Trying to see if anyone had used them. Yes, I have had a tour with Tartan Tours. My advice is to not pay a deposit up front because Sydney is one of those ports a ship will skip if the weather is bad. There were bad reports a couple years ago about Diane not giving deposits back if the ship missed the port. Thank goodness we did make the port and had our tour. Their rates aren't cheap, as I remember. Have you considered taking the ship tour to the Fortress?

travelbig Posted August 9, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Thanks Travelbig! That Helps! I have never been to Eastern Canada or New England and their is so much to see. Yes, there is. The countryside is beautiful and well worth taking a tour outside of town (Sydney). Since the tour she is offering to the fortress is only 4 hrs, it's like she would only be providing transportation to and from which would be easier just to take the ship transportation IMO. Going to Baddeck is a nice ride, too.
