Alaska 2012? Posted August 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2011 My husband and I are past cruiser, but that was prechildren. We are going with children this year. Will they be able to eat at the Mariners luncheon with us or should we plan on going to the Lido? Thanks
Overtime4me2 Posted August 16, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2011 We just got off the Oosterdam yesterday morning :(, and I had the same question as I was bringing my 8 yr old Nephew with me this time. When I got my invite for the Mariner's Brunch, I went to the Front Desk and asked about it. They told me I could bring him along. They smiled and said, "we aren't that rude" or something like that. They were so sweet about it. He came with us, and he even got a tile of his own. I told him that I'm jealous, as I just completed my 4th cruise and received my 3rd tile. When he completes his 4th cruise, he'll have 4!! :D He liked that idea!! :)
sail7seas Posted August 16, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Yes, of course, your children can have lunch with you. How old are they? It's a three course luncheon and only you know if they are able to sit still that long.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 16, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Not certain of your children's ages. But you can take them to the Mariner's Brunch. It doesn't last long -- most are over in an hour. There aren't a lot of choices for entrees.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 16, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2011 The Mariner brunch menu is pretty much the same on all ships -- sometimes the dessert will be different. Here is a copy of the menu from our most recent cruise: Appetizer: Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast or Apple and Pear Gazpacho with Raspberry Sherbet Entrees: Maple Glazed Salmon Fillet with a timbale of golden yellow rice and roasted basil flavored cherry tomatoes or Braised Swiss Steak - slowly cooked in a rich gravy, served over classic mashed potatoes and baby carrots with chives or Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche served with orzo pasta, sauteed spinach and grilled tomato Dessert: Sour Dough Bread Pudding - pieces of sour dough bread, soaked in a rich egg custard, then baked until golden, served with whiskey flavored sauce Petits Fours, Coffee, Tea Santa Carolina "champagne" served
Bippie Posted August 16, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2011 On my recent Eurodam cruise, I don't remember them even checking invitations at the door for the Mariner's lunch. As a Mariner, I knew I should be allowed to go and was told to just show up even though I didn't receive a written invitation. I can't imagine that your children would be turned away but then again I don't know if they would be interested in the limited menu at that lunch. If they are old enough to enjoy the food and you aren't bothered by the serving of drinks, you should be OK.
