Naomi John Posted August 29, 2011 #51 Share Posted August 29, 2011 After I get off the podium, Thanks for the pictures Of Elation. DD loved the fact the slide went into the pool, instead of a oh heck, I do not know, whatever your call it. BTW, I love Fantasy class ships. Been on the Triumph and Conquest, but love my Fantasy. Cruise_Q Posted August 29, 2011 Author #52 Share Posted August 29, 2011 I never heard that. Where did you hear this? Probably they do think New Orleans is a stronger market. Galveston is a stronger market than New Orleans for that matter. I expect to pay up to $100 more to cruise out of Galveston. So true and this is why I DROVE to NOLA on my last cruise...it was cheaper and I love the city... Thanks everyone for your reply... you have given me A lot to present to my fam in making the decision to take this ship...Q
Cruzman Posted August 29, 2011 #53 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We will likely never know the real reason Carnival decided to put the screws to the city of Mobile because those reasons would fly in the face of everything Ted Arrison ever stood for. What we do know is that the reasons given by current mgt are nothing but lies!
Hot2Travel Posted August 29, 2011 #54 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Carnival just switched to new menus fleet wide. On the Elation you have two main dining rooms. You will be assigned to one of them for your evening meal. It will be on your S&S card as to table number and location. (unless you are doing anytime dining). There is a buffet on the lido deck. Out by the pool is where you would get hamburgers/hotdogs/chicken/Mongolian BBQ. Pizza is available 24 hrs along with ice cream in the buffet area. Outside the casino, you have a sushi kiosk. Dave Thanks jetskier, What are your favorites on the menu in the main dining rooms? Anything extra special you have ordered not listed on the menues? jetskier Posted August 29, 2011 #55 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Thanks jetskier, What are your favorites on the menu in the main dining rooms? Anything extra special you have ordered not listed on the menues? I will be able to tell you next week after I get back from the Triumph. Here is a link to the new 4-night menu. http://www.zydecocruiser.net/menus/new/4Day.htm I am not much into food as it is too subjective. What is excellant for one may be slop to another. After my wife's cooking, anything is good. There is a kid's menu in case you just can not find anything you like. There is an Indian foods menu but you have to put in the request 24 hours in advance. Cruzman Posted August 29, 2011 #56 Share Posted August 29, 2011 I thnink Carnival over extended itself. Galvestion, NOLA and Mobile. Where I live, I can have a two or four hour drive to get on a ship, going to the same places, in the same time frame, and can compare cost. Even those who may drive further or fly, NOLA, Houston, or Mobile. Let's see, which one is cheaper for a 4 day to Cozumel, a 5 day to Progresso and Cozumel or, (for Galvestion and NOLA) a 7 day to similar ports, and Cozumel, ( unless it's the eastern route, then the both go to Key West and the Bahamas). It's kind of boring to me. Even with the new ships arriving in NOLA. Nothing different really. People are going to go with what is easy and cheap for the most part. Instead of three ships within 8 hours of each other doing the same thing, they narrowed it to two. Please note this is an opinion why Carnival left Mobile. Interesting theory. Now think about Charleston, Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Let's add Tampa to the mix. Place yourself anywhere in central Florida and you can drive to all of those ports in less than 8 hours. Heck, I live in south Alabama and I can drive to Miami in 11 1/2 hours, FLL in 11 and all of the rest in less than 9 hours. Also, note that all of the short itineraries are doing essentially the same ports; just in different order. I don't think that market saturation enters into the mix. Carnival has stated that their marketing strategy in recent years has been to place ships where more people have an opportunity to drive to the port rather than incur the added expense of flying. You should also be aware that alternate 5 day itineraries from Mobile sail to Cozumel and Calica, rather than to Progresso. That itinerary is scheduled to be eliminated when the ship moves to New Orleans. It should also be noted that the Calica itinerary requires far less fuel than the Progresso itinerary. They are pretty much abandoning Calica as they have Costa Maya. If you remember Costa Maya used to be the alternate port one week and then Calica on the next 5-nighter. Now it is Progreso only. My point here is that if saving fuel were such a high priority, why would Carnival eliminate an itinerary that requires less fuel?
GoRebels Posted August 29, 2011 #59 Share Posted August 29, 2011 One will likely never know.....But It's a damn shame to loose Mobile as a port!! It's only 2.5 hrs for us so it was a godsend especially when traveling with three children, so we will miss it dearly.....I personally have better places to be than NOLA!! Gues we'll find us a new home port in Jacksonville, FL......ah Bahamas beat Mexico anyday anyway right:)
jetskier Posted August 29, 2011 #60 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Yeah, I remember that. My point here is that if saving fuel were such a high priority, why would Carnival eliminate an itinerary that requires less fuel? According to a post the John Heald made a month or so ago, Carnival was not making money on excursions at the port. Dave
