Sights in Montreal & Quebec City that shouldn't be missed?

Recommended Posts

You can get some idea by looking at the tours offered by your ship, but you really need to get a good guidebook and/or do a lot of research here and on TripAdvisor.

I will give you the advice that for Quebec City you can have a great day just wandering around on your own.

In Quebec City, do a walking tour of the Old City. It is beautiful and you will feel like you are in Europe. You can do a horse-drawn carriage tour also, if your luggage will allow. Here in the province of Quebec, we like to relax and enjoy life. So sitting at a café on an outdoor terasse on a picturesque street and just people watching will give you a real feel for the city, whether it is Montreal or Quebec City. Obviously, this will depend on the weather outside!

In Montreal, the Old Port is the historic part of town, and a good place to visit if you haven't ever been there before. There is a market in the Marché Bonsecours there and you can shop for Quebecois crafts and products. Stop for a coffee at the Jardin Nelson, and people watch in Place Jacques Cartier. If it is nice out, you will see street performers and artists displaying their works. If you feel like touring museums, there is Pointe-à -Callière, which is a museum of Montreal's history, down the street on Rue de la Commune. We also have a very good Fine Arts Museum (Musée des beaux-arts) which is not in Old Montreal, but worth a visit if you like art.

Don't miss the Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal, if you like churches.

Hope this gives you some good ideas!

Have a great trip!

Hi,

I have only a couple days in Quebec City so I wanted to know which sights are a must that you guys would recommend I visit in Quebec City and Montreal?

Thanks!

Ann

The town by itself is very beautiful. You need to do some walking on the wall and wandering on 'rue du tresor' and near the Chateau Frontenac.

We have a lot of very good restaurants.

We also have a great waterfall called 'chutes Montmorency'

If it's raining or if you like history, I would suggest you to the civilisation museum. They currently have a wonderful exhibit about rome.

If you like countryfield, you can go to Ile d'Orleans. In autumn, you can pick apples and you can visit many wineries.

Some people really enjoy our aquarium because you can see big polar bears.

hth,

Isabelle

Has anyone taken Celebrity's Quebec Countryside Tour (QU05)? We're considering this tour for our first day in Quebec City, and then doing a walking tour of the city on our own on day 2. We'd like to see the falls and Ile de Orleans, but it's hard to tell from even the larger description just how much of the Isle you get to experience. Any information would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Here's the description from the web site.

Experience the splendor of French Canada's countryside as you drive into the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains to the renowned Lake Beauport area. Gusets will also see the impressive Montmorency Falls and the picturesque Isle Orleans. Guests must be able to walk approximately 200 yards over even and gravel surfaces with 3 to 5 steps. Walking at Montmorency Falls is at your discretion.
