pinksuit Posted August 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2011 We are looking to spend extra time in Barcelona and would like recommendations for "good" restaurants. Also, a place to accommodate a group of 20. Thanks, Pinkie & Friends
CUTTERSAM Posted August 31, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2011 Pinkie, why not post this in the ports of call section under Spain as well!
SuiteTraveler Posted August 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2011 First off, be aware that dinner time in Barcelona starts at 9pm or 9:30pm. You will definitely need to make a special reservation for such a large group and choose a restaurant that actually has enough space to accomodate 20. Barcelona is literally filled with great restaurants, from the classic to the uber trendy. I wish you had written more about your tastes and what kind of dining experience you are looking for. However, here are a few that I believe to be among the best: 7 Portes - traditional http://www.7portes.com/ing/index_7portes.htm Alkimia - new Catalan cuisine- molecular gastronomy http://www.alkimia.cat/eng/home.html Vinya Roel - enoteca http://www.vinya-roel.com/ing/home.html La Bombeta - tapas http://guidepal.com/barcelona/restaurants/la-bombeta Gresca - modern simplicity http://www.gresca.net/ Moo - trendy upscale in the Omm Hotel http://www.hotelomm.es/moo/ Tapac 24 - former El Bulli Head Chef Carlos Abellan!!! CUTTERSAM Posted August 31, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2011 SuiteTraveler, have you ever been here? http://www.maitea.es/indexangles.html I am helping Pinkie try to find a place. Correct me if I am wrong Pinkie, do we need something that will run about 25-35 eu pp? I know we need to find a place to accommadate the group and we need to dine about 6pm so we need a non-stop kitchen. Most in the group will have made a long trip and I don't think anyone will make a 930 dining rez awake.

Their specialty are pinxtos - tapas on a toothpick. IMO, not the best in town, nor the worst, and IMO nothing special. I think you all might be best off at 7 Portes - which takes reservations, is open starting at 1pm and has large rooms to accomodate a big group. I would suggest you consider sticking to Paella (which they are known for) and perhaps some warm starters and ordering for the whole table to share - so if you have a table of 10, then you only order 7 dishes or so for all to share. The portions are enormous. With wine, it easily makes a sumptuous dinner. Paella is typically 22 Euros, warm starters typically around 10 Euros... That way everyone can retire early since they would have been flying around the world. We also have 4 people that will be arriving 4 days prior to the rest. I will be happy with your choice! Go for it! Feel free to post or start a thread in the Port section too. Pinkie
Taxguy77 Posted September 1, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Los Carracoles is old, I sat in the same chair as Henry Ford had used on my first trip there in 1956, large, and was still good when there a few years ago. Sorry I don't know the starting time. Ordering the serving family style makes a lot of sense, especially as some are extra hungry and others want little after a long days travel. Have a great trip.
