semlohah Posted September 1, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2011 We are cruising HAL next month with our 7 month old. Are we expected to pay full fare for any excursions or can he attend for free?
DALSAL Posted September 1, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Usually no, if you hold them.
queenL Posted September 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Taken from HAL's website Q: Does Holland America Line offer children's prices? A: Yes. Children's prices, where applicable, will be listed on the order form and in the individual shore excursions shown for each destination featured on the web site. These prices generally apply for children aged 12 and under. Children 13 and over will be charged full adult fare on tours. Lap children aged 2 and under may be allowed to accompany parents or guardians on some excursions at no charge. Generally, lap child rates are not available on flights, watercraft and modes of transportation other than motorcoaches and taxi vans. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult over 21. Please consult the onboard shore excursion staff for details. It seems like infants will be free for SOME excursions. notentirelynormal Posted September 1, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2011 On Princess we were told to book her a child ticket. Then we went to the tour office and had them mark on our account that it was an "infant" ticket and they adjusted the price on our account. This was for a lap baby for the most part, a ticket that didn't require an actual seat. It didn't mean they didn't get one, but it didn't guarantee one either. For Princess, they said they did it this way to get a head count for the tour.

Just be careful, not all tours have the same age cut off to be free, and others you have to pay regardless of a child's age. If you see something on line print it out and bring it with you, because we booked an excursion on line before we left and they tried to change the rules after we boarded...good thing I had proof!
