sail7seas Posted March 28, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Thailand has just issued a Tsunami warning. Our very closest friends have a son traveling in Thailand right now. I spoke with his Mom last night and she was worried then.....before this happened. I cannot bring myself to call her right now. I am hoping she hasn't heard the news and isn't aware what is going on. I pray she doesn't hear until enough time has passed for officials to be announcing Tsunami threat has passed and all are safe.
spcl4cs_gal Posted March 28, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2005 All they can do right now is evacuate and wait to see if a wave will it. Let's pray that a tsunami doesn't develop.

Himself Posted March 28, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I am not in a big earthquake area (thank God) but I think 8.2 could be a rather severe earth quake.
Ziggy7 Posted March 28, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 28, 2005 They have ours too! We live in earthquake territory and that is huge for an earthquake!
sail7seas Posted March 28, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted March 28, 2005 They are now saying it was an 8.7 earthquake......very powerful.
HeatherInFlorida Posted March 28, 2005 #11 Share Posted March 28, 2005 I only just learned of this horror! How awful. I went my whole life with no knowledge of the word Tsunami. Now it's coming up again within just a few months. You have to wonder what is going on. We can only hope they are just being extremely cautious by readying for a Tsunami to follow the earthquake. What more can anyone say except to pray for all the people and their families in that part of the world.
DavidNDC Posted March 28, 2005 #12 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Looks like the energy created by the earthquake moved south, meaning that is where a tsunami would go -- away from the populated areas. Fingers crossed, but so far so good.
Himself Posted March 28, 2005 #13 Share Posted March 28, 2005 Just saw something from one of the News Services that indicate nearly 300 have been killed by this quake so far. This is not good news.
Rosarymb Posted March 30, 2005 #14 Share Posted March 30, 2005 The only good thing about this quake was it was apparently a "side to side" or "slip" displacement rather than a vertical one -- the vertical displacements are the ones that create the larger tsunamis. Still, those poor people. I can't imagine the terror they felt during their second huge quake in a year....they must have thought it was all going to happen again, except time time, it was going to be at night.... CDRMark Posted March 30, 2005 #15 Share Posted March 30, 2005 I hope that damage and loss of life is minimal. Something to put the stubbed toe, or unsatisfactory vacation complaint in perspective. Cheers MarkB
