Cruising with a minor/shared custody

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a copy of the form you are suppose to have your ex spouse complete acknowledging that he/she knows you have a minor child out of the country?

Thanks!!!

Here's what their web site says:

I had this similar issue when I cruised with NCL. I have no idea where my son's father is and therefore could not contact him to get a form signed. My son had his Passport, Birth Certificate and I authorised my new husband to travel with my son on the form. I was very anxious that this would not be enough but it was. I asked at embarkation why this was enough and they said because if something happens to me, the biological parent, my new husband is authorised to care for my son's medical needs etc. That makes sense to me. It was a one page form that NCL have on their site that required witnesses so not a big issue to provide at all.

You don't need that because you are a parent of the minor? Really?

I took a cruise 2 years ago with my biological Son & step Son. Since my Son has a different last name I had to show proof that he was mine. I had full legal & sole physical custody of him at the time (he is now of legal age) & he already had a passport. Up until he was 18 anytime we traveled I carried a copy of my custody paperwork & marriage licence. On the other hand they didn't even ask for any paperwork for my step Son.

I haven't had a problem either but since I carry a passport for my son (last names are differant) I still bring the Birth Cert...to show the connection. Getting a passport for my son his dad has to be there to sign off on it. But I have heard of some other things happening...it's better to be safe than sorry. Also If RCCL wants to give you a hard time then they need to change it on thier website.

From everything I have read, it's a requirement to have the permission to travel letter when traveling to foreign countries.

Click the link below, at the bottom is a sample letter for permission to travel:

Here is one of the sample letters you could print:

Hope this helps. Better to be safe then sorry.
