Thinking of doing a Greek cruise in 2012. We would love to see the beautiful lslands. Overwhelmed with the logistics of getting there from Texas. Would love to hear any suggestions! What would be the best time of year? Best ship? Best itenerary?

Thanks for any info!

Santorini , Athens, of course although not Greek Dubrodnic, avoid high season late june/july/august/ early Setember if you cannot cope with high temperatures and children..

One of the best cruises we went on included Isreal....

.Word of warning which ever cruise you pick make sure it is leaving EU waters or there is an additional sales tax (VAT) added to your bill.

This year would of recommended the Brilliance or Mariner cruises but next year different ships...

One thing you will enjoy the greek Islands, except Corfu...j

The best time IMO to visit Greece is in the springtime. It's normally green and beautiful in spring but tends to be quite hot and dry in the middle of summer.

I would visit in June or September - to avoid the crowds and the heat. If length of cruise isn't a problem the Grandeur is doing some lovely 10/11 day routes from Venice in June and September, and the ship will have just come out of drydock and a full refit.

May, early June or September as it gets really hot in mid summer. IMHO Rhodes is a must, we absolutely love it. Santorini is wonderful if theres not alot of ships there on same day,but to be honest all the islands are wonderful in there own way. What ever you choose youll have a great time :)

We've been twice -- in August and in September, and there is a huge difference. Crowds are substantially less, and while it's still hot in September, it's much more bearable. I second the suggestion that every island is special in its own way, but my personal favorite for a first-time visit is Santorini with its 'only-in-Santorini' blue and white vistas.

We have cruised twice to Greece and have just booked a third! It is a truly stunning area of the Med.

Our biggest surprise this year was Crete as the harbour is spectacular and unexpected.

Last year we were there in mid August and temperatures were above 40 degrees. This year we cruised at the end of August and the temps were more favourable at approx 30 degrees.

If I was not tied to a child in school holidays I would recommend June or September. Mainly to avoid searing heat and huge amounts of tourists.

Santorini is so beautiful, but it would have been even better without spending half the time avoiding other tourists!! :D

Mykonos is lovely, but quite windy and most of us got 'wind burn' as it felt much cooler than it was. The tiny winding streets are quite amazing.

The only negative I could say about the places we went to is that one really does have to be able bodied to be able to really enjoy it. Lots of cobbled winding streets, that in the heat are very tiring.

Also, with our crazy European weather, you can literally 'guarantee' sunshine in Greece.

The Splendour is doing a number of Greek 7 night cruises in 2012 which look great. We loved the Splendour and as she's going in for an upgrade, she will be shiny and new!;) Cruising from Venice is wonderful and we really enjoyed Split in Croatia on the way to Greece.
