How much spending money and costs of things

Hi Guys,

DH, DD and I are planning a 12 night cruise on Radiance of the Seas early next year and just wondered how much spending money do you think i would need. Is $100 a day enough.

So suppose we plan on doing our own trips onshore, eating at the free places. I plan on getting a soda package. DH will drink some alcohol but not heaps. And possibly plan on using the day care centre at $8 a hour for a few hours a day.

Also does anyone know the costs of things like massages, etc?

We went on freedom back in Oct 07 and i think we spent about the $1000 mark.

Thanks

Hi Clm1982,

As an Aussie we loved many of the prices. Cocktails were about $8 each. Much cheaper than any restaurant or bar here. And there is ofter free champagne around the art gallery thingo. Duty free was awesome as it is US prices less tax! So we got 4 bottles of spirits for $90 (one of them being Grey Goose that is about $50 ish here). Perfume, make up ect were also very cheap.

Massages are ridiculously expensive. A 50 minute was about $120 - $150. But I still had one as it was a holiday. Photos are about $20 each, but the shore day ones (as you leave the ship) were only $15 or $10 so a good momento.

Internet was very expensive and slow. We would prepare everything in word then dump it into facebook or emails and only be on for a few minutes. If you use the internet make sure you log out not just shut down.

You can find the prices of nearly everything on their website - massages, wine etc.

We do all our own tours, often by negotiating with a local taxi driver.

You really do not need to spend much extra on bard. The free food is fantastic. No need to spend more.

Hope this helps. Others will have more details.

Raina

Where is your cruise? Shore excursions or private tours or do nothing ports make a big difference in the travel budget. Some ports have great places for massages but you may not want to spend port time doing a massage. Also there are specials on 3fers spa services for $99.

Go to the port boards and get an idea of what you will spend off the boat. Make sure you drink enough sodas to make the package worth the money. We often bring diet cokes on the ship when we are in port.

A BIG expense can be the casino - even the slot and poker tournaments add up. Bingo is very expensive.

We are a family of 4 (kids aged 6) and we budget for $100 a day. This has seen us through 6 cruises although we do prepay most excursions before the cruise. If you are not big drinkers or gamblers then it may be enough.

Enjoy your cruise :)

We pre-payed whatever we could, excursions, restaurants, etc, and we were 7 nights on the Oasis. After some souvenir shopping onboard, a few drinks, and some Johnny Rockets and some other extras here and there, our SeaPass bill came in less than $200. We do save on what we can, try to abstain from as many onboard expenses as we can, and we are not big drinkers, and didnt go to the casino. So depending on how much you like to spend, $100 a day might not be enough, or if you're like us, you'll have lots of money left over for a deposit on the next cruise ;):p:D
