Best Piano Entertainer on Carnival? (Part 2)

I've no doubt this is true, but we were on the Miracle way back in 2008, and the piano bar with Roger Concepcion was packed. But, Roger is very good, so that may be why. Also, the piano bars were "smoking" back then.

Roger was also packing them in on the Pride a couple weeks ago. The first night, of course, it was fairly empty. But by the middle of the week, it was crowded! One night (can't remember which), DH and I came up the stairs to find the place packed-to-overflowing. Standing room only, and not really much of that. People were standing outside the glass-walled room, and even sitting on the couches across the way, on the other side of the ship (the closest seats to the piano that could be found). It was crazy - we had never seen a piano bar so packed! Roger has no trouble pulling in the crowds.:)

Did the Pride have the band in the bar below?

I have not been on a Spirit class ship for awhile it has been at least 2 years. Maybe with the entertainment changes that carnival has made it might help the PB's crowds.

Yep, the band played in the Starry Nights lounge (which is also the smoking bar), downstairs from the PB.

I got a reply when I asked this question (about the Freedom) on the Carnival forums. I was told it was a gentleman named Martin Aucoin. Not 100% sure on that spelling. They attached a vido from a personal website of his on Facebook. Here is the link according to the poster:

https://www.*****/pianobarbarians/

Said they do a pretty good job of keeping the information on the PB players. Also said he is new to Carnival.

I did a google search for him. Seems he goes by Martin Alex Aucoin. Here's the link to his website:

I listened to his 10 minute youtube video--he doesn't have the best voice (though that could be due to the sound quality of the video), but he at least seems to be singing standard piano bar fare and was also taking requests.

I hope that we get some comments on him from cruisers now that he has been around a few weeks.

Video doesn't do much for his voice, but the people seemed to be having a good time and it does look like he gets everyone involved.

Hope to hear some reviews soon.

Didn't get to edit my post in time:

- I didn't update keith's info, so it shouldn't really be red

- I have no indication that Billy J. Clay ever left the Destiny, so my guess is that he's still there.

For Stu, concerning Imani:

I think it's gonna depend on what you like with him. He uses tracks for most of his upbeat songs. He's very much a jazz guy and plays crazy nuts solos, although some of you probably don't care to hear that in a piano bar, depends on what you like. He's a great guy and has a great personality.

Interested to know this too, since we'll be on the Freedom in Oct. Anyone?

We were on 8/19 cruise and this was the new piano player's first night (I can't remember his name). Talking with Jay (entertainer from the swingtime lounge) this was actually the first time this Piano player has been on a cruise ship. Anyway, I'm sad to report that he was not very good. The paino bar was dead every time we were there and every time we walked past. Truly sad cause we really enjoy the piano bar. We gave him several chances but eventually gave up. Perhaps he will get better with time. Jay was really good in the swingtime lounge if you can handle the smoke.

Ugh, that's disappointing to hear.:(

Could you be more specific as to what was bad about him? Was it his voice, his playing, his choice of songs, personality etc.? Thanks.

Could you elaborate on what made the piano bar singer so bad? Also, what kind of music did Jay sing? Thanks.

Does anyone have any feedback about Gregory George on the Valor?

Unfortunately, he isn't very good (just off the Valor yesterday). Gregory mostly spends his time asking everyone where they are from and continues to talk. He does very little piano playing, and he can't sing very well. We stayed for about 30 minutes. In that 30 minutes, he played 3 songs. There were only 6 of us in the piano bar at 9:30, and I understand from other passengers that the piano bar was never very crowded (which goes back to my opinion that Gregory isn't very good).
