ctinkle Posted March 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2005 We will be arriving and checked into our hotel by about noon on a Saturday. We have to embark on the Windsurf late Sunday afternoon. Would anyone recommend a trip to Sintra by train, either on Saturday afternoon or Sunday, or should we spend all of our time in Lisbon? Is anything even open in Sintra on Sunday? Aussie Gal Posted April 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2005 Sintra is a lovely spot and really is not that far from Lisbon. I think a train will take you there and it takes only about 40 minutes. It has a lot of galleries and touristy shops selling beautiful Portuguese hand worked souvenirs etc. If you haven't been to Lisbon before, I would perhaps do that when you arrive on Saturday afternoon and go to Sintra on Sunday morning. The hop on hop off buses are a great way to see Lisbon and it is not a huge city so you would see a lot in the afternoon, especially as it will be summer and the days are longer. MizzLee Posted April 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2005 Since you have essentially two half days, perhaps you could stay in Lisbon and use the hop on/hop off bus the first day and go to Sintra the next morning. The ride along the Estoril coast is beautiful. The town of Sintra is charming, but the main attraction is the Pena National Palace and it is open on Sunday. To maximize your time, perhaps you could use a guide. Last year we used "Tours for You" and were very pleased. http://www.toursforyou.pt/Eng/SintraEstorilExclEng.htm Hope this helps, Lee
