Does anyone know of a wine shop in Funchal?

We are looking to purhase wine in Funchal on our TA this November. Does anyone know if there's a wine shop in Funchal, and if so, where it would be located? Last time we were in Funchal (last year) there was a shuttle from the ship to the town, but we didn't look for a wine shop at that time.

I don't know of a specific wine shop but if you walk along the main street where there are tons of shops and restaurants I'm sure you'll find something. Also there are lots of shops that sell Madeira so stop into one of those and they can direct you.

Try any of the "Pingo Doce" supermarkets in Madeira - they usually have an excellent wine selection...the larger the store the better, try the branch in the Dolce Vita centre http://www.dolcevita.pt/doc_externo_centro.aspx?param=6xaQnimFh6TUGczg8rpu2Zpy6mpcDcrLe2N/uVk2zInfxssLyA/ygroVgn+BvNjqd8YxnpVlwoUvXJ8O4P7bMq2pBPipnWpnxFOBGiAy+TUGKzFHbkIWBp0yVhllTDqJufDYex9IuJjklELMXVliX559TrNXZlIYIaldticE3vbcDwRVo9lw89rZ8cCpbkLyxtI4Hr2WrXk=

If you're on a warm weather cruise try a well chilled bottle of Portuguese Vinho Verde.....very refreshing as a sundowner!! A good bottle should cost around €5. :)

If you have been to Funchal you probably already know this but whenever I have been there prior to a crossing I go to the big market and get flowers for my cabin. They are very reasonable and enhance the cabin during all those sea days.

During the TA we did a year ago, we walked back to town from the drop off point of the 'baskets' (can't remember the official name) and on our way to the ship passed a wine-tasting place. It was really nice and we tasted all varieties and purchased some. Wish I could tell you the name of the place, but we drank all the wine!! I'm sure there are more.
