Dawn/Jewel difference

Hello to you all from England.

My partner and I were on the maiden voyage on Dawn in December 2002 from Southampton to New York.

We enjoyed it so much that we are now going on the maiden voyage of Jewel on Aug. 10 around the Med.

Personally, I hope it is a totally different layout, surely, half the fun is continually getting lost around the ship!

I must say that many a happy hour was spent in the Pearly King, the waitress, Sari, was most delightful, i'm hoping she'll be on the Jewel but it must be a billion to one chance!

We are hoping that there will be a similar size bar as the King, it was just right for atmosphere and felt just right, probably because it is a replica of an English pub!

For all those booked in the future, I will give my honest opinion on my return, really looking forward to it.....

Regards

Take care of the ship I will be onboard a few weeks later Dover to NY.

There is a rollcall with others on your cruise. It might be good to share some wisdom. Here is the link to the end of the thread.

Colmil: Come join us on the roll call thread. Shoreguy has given you the link on the previous post. It is under Jewel 8/10/05.

It is getting close and my DH and I are getting excited!!!! I have also sailed on the Dawn twice. I am anxious to see the similiarities and differences of these two great ships. I've read that some of the best crew from NCL and off the Dawn are joining the staff of the Jewel.

DH and I are in the very primary stages of thinking about an Eastern Caribbean cruise on Jewel in December 2006 for my 50th birthday, so I was glad to see this thread.

I for one will be very sad to see the "Impressions" type restaurant gone. Out of the three on Dawn, it was by far my favorite of the main dining rooms. However, they have to keep changing things and trying new configurations to keep it fresh, so I guess I understand. I was also stymied by the loss of the cinema. DH and DS spent a lot of time in there on the Dawn. Could it be that the Dawn, traveling that East Coast itinerary, often in cold weather when the outdoors cannot be used, has more of a need for an indoor space to be used in that manner, and that for warmer itinerary sailings, they felt it was a waste? Just wondering why they eliminated it...because on my Dawn sailing, that cinema was awfully crowded a lot of the time, and it was also used for an alternate meeting room!

I found out another difference today. Those two special BAs on the Dawn, Aft facing, with the 136sf balconies are not on the Jewel. :(

The two on deck ten are the same size as the regular ones 167sf with 37sf balcony. But.....

On deck 9 are two aft facing handicap BAs that are 276 sf with a 58 sf balcony and I was able book one last night :D

  • 4 weeks later...

On the Dawn the laundries are not marked on the deck plans. We found it by walking down the hall looking at the doors. On Dawn deck 11 it was on the inside of the hallway across from 11090.

I will be on the Jewel on 8/10. On an 13 day cruise I will need to find the laundry for sure. I will post the location when I return.

Hi Marilyn:

If you think of it while you are onboard, I'd appreciate a little list of the key staff members you note from your Dawn cruises. One spot I'm wodering about is the Sr. waitstaff in LeBistro and Cagneys. Ivan, LeBisto, is one from our recent Dawn cruise, and Ronato (?) and Mr. Cagney from Cagney's. I think it was Laura, the Maitre D' in Salsa I heard might be going there. I did hear about Ruth as concierge, Sean as F & B mgr., and of course Klaus. Another Dawn favorite on our last two cruises, was a waiter from St. Lucia, Felix. He was a regular at LaTrattoria, but also found his way to Venetian and Garden Cafe. I do have notes on some favorites, but these are just from the top of my head.

Thanks for the help if you can do it, and we look forward to your report. We're hoping for the 11/13 cruise out of Miami, but still not sure.

Have a greeat cruise!

We're off to Cape Cod at 6 am for two weeks.
