Burj A Arab

Trying to decide whether to have lunch or tea during our time in port....has anyone either?

Thanks in advance. Barbara

We have done both.

My suggestion is to do lunch at the Al Mutahah on the 26th floor with the canteliver views of all of Dubai. The menu is fantastic!;)

One advantage about doing the lunch is that you have access the Burj and not just the lobby for the High Tea.

I vote for lunch at the Seafood Restaurant, around the huge Aquarium. So interesting! You can have drinks beforehand at the top in the cocktail lounge. However, children are only allowed in the Seafood restaurant at lunch, not dinner, but there were only 1 or 2 when I have been there. And they give you a guide to the kinds of fish swimming around!

Granted the al Mahara (Aquarium) restaurant is spectacular as well, nothing beats the views from the Al Mutaha on the 26th floor overlooking all of Dubai. Also the menu is out of this world! They also serve Roderer Crystal Champagne by the glass one of the few places you can do that.;)

Thanks for the food suggestions. We have spent a lot of time in Dubai . Went to the top last time, did the ski run at the other mall, but didn't have enough time to sit and enjoy the aquarium. Have visited the old city, all the souks, and wondered what to do this time on our day in port.

Here's their dress code for the Mahara:

Lunch: the Dress Code during lunch is smart casual. Gentlemen are requested to wear a shirt with collar, long trousers or smart jeans, closed shoes. Ladies are requested to wear a suit or dress, long or short skirt or dressy slack and top. UAE national dress is welcome. For gentlemen shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, open and running, gym, tennis, basketball shoes, etc are not allowed.

Dinner: the Dress Code during dinner is semi-formal. Gentlemen are required to wear a shirt with collar and long sleeves, long trousers (no jeans) and closed shoes, a jacket should also be worn at dinner time. Ladies are requested to wear a suit or dress, long or short skirt or dressy slack and top. UAE national dress is welcome. For gentlemen shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, open and running, gym, tennis, basketball shoes, etc are not allowed.

They do a culinary flight for lunch this includes 4 courses, with or without wine, with each course served in a different restaurant, We have not tried this but are booked in for March next year

That sounds like fun. I remember the Progressive Dinners of the 50's. Haven't heard of anyone doing that lately.

My suggestion is to do the lunch but to skip the wine. The lunch will be pricey but the wines price is really excessive.

How trye about the wine prices!...OUTRAGEOUS is more like it...they do this on purpose as to deter and discourage drinking in the U.A.E. ....although people drink in their homes.

You are correct. Many do drink in their homes just as on the weekends many of the wealthy ones in Saudi Arabia go over to neighboring Bahrain for drink and other entertainment.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. After careful consideration and the allotted time we are in port....(drum roll)..... have decided upon the....... "Ultimate Tea." Lunch really cuts into the day since it ends a 2:30. This way we can do later afternoon and have the morning and early afternoon for other activities. Also allowing time to return to the ship and freshen up before. Lunch will have to wait for another time. Barbara

Barbara FYI, go on the Burj al Arab website ASAP and book your Afternoon Tea as this event fills up weeks in advance and is always sold out and you just can't show up at the hotel without a reservation , they will not let you in past the front gates....have fun and Enjoy!:);):)

We have stayed there and when we booked we were sent a list of do's and don't regarding dress code as Jane said.

One other thing we were told that no cameras were allowed in the Al Mutahah

at any time. The whole stay was an experience not to be missed.
