poss Posted November 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2011 We've been to (and love) St Paul de Vence, so we're trying to decide among these other three options: Monaco and Monte Carlo St Tropez (the little ferry ride sounds interesting) Gorges du Loup and Gourdon (I think Grasse as well-- tho we don't like perfume) We have no interest in shopping. We love great scenery and handsome towns and gardens and walking. Thanks for input!
Rare Hlitner Posted November 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2011 We would just suggest that you not do the St Tropez tour since we find this town somewhat underwheming. At one time (back in the days when Bridget Bardot was in her prime) this was a very special sea resort...but these days its just one more (of many) resort towns. You would probably enjoy either of your other options but, in the end, you will probably say, "we should have gone back to St Paul de Vence." We have spent a lot of time in this region of France and keep returning to this magical town again and again. You might want to consider an excursion that includes a visit to Eze Village, which has some of the same kind of charm found in St Paul de Vence. Essexlass2 Posted November 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Monaco and Monte Carlo would be our choice!
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2011 I would visit Monaco. Lots to do there. Keith
wantocruisemore Posted November 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2011 What are your interests? For us at our stop in Cannes next summer I've already arranged a private tour for St. Paul de Vence, Eze & Nice. We like historical locales with lots to see. The Medieval villages interest us more. But, when I first started contacted companies they talk about stopping to get your photo taken on the red carpet at Cannes, the casino in Monaco etc. It all depends on what you're looking for. And if you're considering a tour, don't just stop with the ship excursions. Research the private companies too. They have more flexibility. poss Posted November 14, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted November 14, 2011 I appreciate the input-- good to hear the different replies. Have no interest in seeking private tour because our tours are included in cruise price and we've always been very happy with them. We'll be staying in Nice post-cruise for 4 days. We've been to Eze (liked it) and St Paul (loved it, though not the shops; the museum was great). We don't like shopping, don't like casinos. I'm curious to know why the several people who mentioned Monaco like it so much. I know that the views are stunning and that there are a number of very handsome buildings (including the casino of course). Is the town quite pleasant to wander through even if one doesn't enjoy shopping or gambling. I read that there's a botanical garden. Is it quite special? Thanks! I really do appreciate the various opinions.

poss Posted November 16, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted November 16, 2011 Thanks, ok-- but I'd still be interested in knowing what people especially like about those places. Thanks!
Rare Hlitner Posted November 16, 2011 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2011 Thanks, ok-- but I'd still be interested in knowing what people especially like about those places. Thanks! DW and I were just talking about your post and trying to think of what we like about Monte Carlo. After much deliberation we decided "Nothing!" Other then being able to say we have been in Monte Carlo (we have probably been in that city more then a dozen times) it is a place that we quickly exit! We might be in a minority, but other then a quick trip up to the Palace (we did this on one of our first visits) we want to get out of MC as fast as possible to go to other places that we find a lot more charming.
