realmccoy Posted November 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2011 So where is a couple of good places to eat in Galveston? We will be there for a few days pre-cruise and looking for some local eats. We are not into the brand name restaurants and like to visit good local restaurants to support the ma and pa establishments. So where should we eat? rvsullivan Posted November 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2011 The majority on the above list are not mom and pop. That's not to say many of them are not very good, they are! But a significant number on this list are chains or very large. Depends on what your looking for.:D

jonbgd Posted November 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 24, 2011 We ate @ Marios on Seawall.. Good Itilian food and great prices Its at the far end of the beach Olympia grill pier 21 Great location next to the cruise ship terminals and good food a little pricier compared to Marios. Good greek/itialian food But they had a Mussels in Marinara sauce that was AWESOME on their specials menu. It was almost as good as an itilian restaurant in SF And Fish Tales... not mom and pop(Landrys owns half the restaurants in Galveston) but a great place to people watch on a nice day good food and drinks

relaxedPax Posted November 26, 2011 #11 Share Posted November 26, 2011 If you want to stay away from chain restaurants, and want to eat where the locals do, try Sonny's Place (1206 19th St) Sonny's has been on the island since the 40s, and they have great burgers, and the menu varies from Seafood to Comfort food. Try the artery clogger if you're feeling brave! Note: Bring cash - they do not accept credit cards.
JRock59 Posted November 26, 2011 #12 Share Posted November 26, 2011 The Original Mexican Resturant on 14th Street Yaga's in the Strand Millers on Seawall The Spot on Seawall Have you looked over at Galveston dot com? Under what to do, click on dining in Galveston, a number of places have menus you can look at. They are at the download tab of the resturant. ssb Posted November 29, 2011 #17 Share Posted November 29, 2011 We ate at The Spot last time we sailed out of Galveston. Delicious casual food! The desserts looked luscious but we were too full to order anything. The Spot has a whole new palapa bar upstairs overlooking the Gulf called The Rum Shack. Very large area even with couches, with great happy hour prices on drinks and food (not sure about Friday and Saturday). See menus on net! And with many specialty drinks including a variety of Mojitos.
ssb Posted November 29, 2011 #18 Share Posted November 29, 2011 We really liked the Salt Grass steak house. Fantastic service and great food. So.much.food. It does have consistently good food and service. It is owned by Landry's Restaurants and is definitely a large chain! We like it also though!
