Are chair rental and umbrellas available?k Anything else we should know? Thanks

disneykins Posted November 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2011 Is it possible to go to the beach and not pay rental fees? Maybe just sit on a towel? Do the resorts let you swim at their beaches or do they charge fees? Thanks, Tony
TurtleTagger Posted November 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 29, 2011 Is it possible to go to the beach and not pay rental fees? Maybe just sit on a towel? Do the resorts let you swim at their beaches or do they charge fees? Thanks, Tony Paraphrased from a recent TripAdvisor post I thought summed beach access up pretty tidily: "The beaches in Cayman are public up to the high-tide water line, so anyone can enjoy them. There are fully public sections of Seven Mile Beach (the entire beach area) next to the Westin at Governor's Public Beach, Public Beach a bit farther north near Calico Jacks Bar & Grill (most amenities on-site or nearby - park, tables, rest room, with rental chairs at Calico Jacks) and West Bay Public Beach at the far northern end of the crescent. You are free to situate yourself anywhere on the beach within their confines. Some hotel and condo properties enforce the property lines more strictly than others. For example, some will let you "plop" down anywhere along the beach with your towel, others like the Westin, will usually force you to the sides of their property of very close to the water's edge. In all cases the "facilities" (lounge chairs, pool, water equipment [non-rental], etc...) are for paying guests of those properties only. The public areas and beach clubs, noted below, are large enough to accommodate all day-trippers. There are three beach clubs that have chair rentals at Royal Palms, Public Beach/Seagrape Beach and Tiki Beach, along with full amenities like food, beverages, restrooms, water sports rentals, etc...where you are also welcome to "plop" down with your towel." PWMFlyer19 Posted November 30, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2011 If you just want a place to chill with no services, have a taxi take you to Cemetery Beach, towards the north end of 7 mile beach. You basically walk through the cemetery (or the access path next to it) to get to a gorgeous strip of sand. Good snorkelling right off beach. Again, no services, but it is a nice spot. Smith Cove to the south of Georgetown is excellent for snorkelling, but can be a little rough based on seas. The beach is small, but you are going to the snorkelling. Cheers. Colorado Kat Posted December 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2011 You can set up camp anywhere, with your towels. Lots of places available to get food or drink. Places serving food will have restroom facilities.
CarolRoy Posted January 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2012 We take the public bus to Cemetery Beach for $2.50 pp. We spend a few hours at Cemetery Beach then walk back towards town on the beach. If we get too hot or too tire, we then leave the beach and catch a bus back to town for the $2.50 pp. We will do the same again in Feb. 2012. 2012 – Carnival Conquest – Feb. – W. bab123 Posted January 2, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2012 Since it is so easy to get to 7 mile beach, would you say it doesn't make sense to take a ship excursion such as the one Princess Crown offers for $29.00? The excursion says it offers "free" drink, chairs on the beach and a scenic drive. It sounds like it would be very doable on our own? Thanks! You can ask the driver to drop you off anywhere along 7-mile beach. Royal Palm is a nice area with a bar, restaurant, and rest rooms. If you get dropped off here and it seems too crowded, just walk up the beach a few minutes and it will be less crowded. I would never do a ship excursion on GC just to go to the beach.
