dixonge Posted December 1, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2011 Is there any such thing? We're planning on some long-term travel in central America starting in January. Just comparing cruise vs airfare travel prices....
ssb Posted December 1, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2011 Is there any such thing? We're planning on some long-term travel in central America starting in January. Just comparing cruise vs airfare travel prices.... Similar to a transatlantic cruise! And whether a fly back/over to/from US Its a great idea! I've thought about also. A fellow passenger and now friend from Texas with us took earlier May 2011 TA Vogager - Galveston to Barcelona..... and six months later Nov 2011 met us in Rome and came back with us on Mariner. He spent 6 months traveling around Europe in between! What a way to start and end a vacation!! I love it!!!:D Check your repositioning cruises! See 90 day ticker on internet!!! dixonge Posted December 1, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted December 1, 2011 Check your repositioning cruises! See 90 day ticker on internet!!! Yeah, I just ran across those. Unfortunately, not a lot of repositioning from Galveston to Costa Rica :(
Galveston Cruiser Posted December 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2011 Call the cruise line and ask if they will do a one way.
ssb Posted December 2, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2011 Believe one just sailed from Malaga Spain to Colon Panama this week. And it was cheap! Obviously not sold out. They may be bringing her back to somewhere in Europe or to states in May 2012. Try finding her!
bptex Posted December 3, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2011 You could drive most of the way, insurance in Mexico isn't too bad.
geckog Posted December 20, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2011 I believe you can take any cruise that stops in Mexico and just stay in port. My bigger hesitation would be that ships will skip ports if conditions are bad, so there is a possibility you wouldn't make the port you wanted to debark at. I doubt if that would be very economical. Also, I wouldn't just get off in a port and not come back without making sure the cruise line knew of your plans...that would raise all kinds of problems! But then, I suspect they'd wonder what you were doing if you got off for a shore excursion with all your baggage...:)
