I'm considering booking our first cruise on a Celebrity ship (the Millenium to be specific), and i'll be cruising with my husand. i'm hoping some experts here can give me some insight on the celebrity style of cruising.

One of our key areas of interest is the steam/sauna setup, the thalassotherapy pool, and fitness area. Are there any costs involved in accessing these areas, and if so, what are they? The 'aquaspa' cabins appear to be sold out for our cruise and judging by the name i'm guessing these cabins come with some included access to the spa. (and i'm not speaking of treatments as i do know those are extra). do the rest of the categories pay extra?

A second area of interest is nightlife. We're not really the 'piano bar' or big band types. a nightclub with a DJ would be fun to do some dancing and socialize. What is the style of nightlife onboard?

your expertise and advice is appreciated!

The thalassotherapy pool is no charge. There is no charge for working out in the fitness center, but they do offer classes (i.e. yoga, spin etc.) for a charge as well as some personal training for a chage. I am not sure if the steam room and sauna have a charge.

Nightlife is significantly more sedate on Celebrity versus sister line RCI. Celebrity tends to focus more on a leisurely, upscale, relaxing type ambiance. Things generally quiet down quite a bit by the time the late dinner seating is over. The martini bar usually is energetic past midnight and sometimes the casino, but other than that do not expect too much nightlife. The newer (S-Class) ships seem to have a bit more going on at night, but still nothing like what you would see on a typical RCI cruise.

On Millie, at the front of the ship on the lido deck is Cosmos. They had parties going on there every night we were sailing. The music is good and the liquor is plentiful. Party hearty!:D

Thank you both for your input- greatly appreciated! If anyone does know about a potential fee for access to the steam area of the spa (or if it is only available prior to a treatment) ... please do reply!

First a little tid bit for your information. The Millenium has 97 sq feet for every 7 people. So don,t ever worry about being to crowded on board. As she was my first ship to cruise on, I still talk about her like a new found kitten. She,s fabulous. The food is more than you could ask for, and if you don,t like something, ask for something else. Another tid bit to consider while dining in the MDR. (main dining room) Kindly ask the waiter to bring you a third entree at the end of your current meal that you can share with your other half. We even let some of our table mates join in on all the fun so all of us can experience all the great food items being offered that evening. Nite life should bring you to cosmo,s disco, where you can dance off all that great food you just ate. And one last tid bit. Don,t be afraid to use room service everyday. If you have a balcony, there,s nothing better than sitting watching the ship dock while enjoying what ever you order. Do I sound like an Italian who loves to eat while cruising? You bet ya!!

lol! great tips. how is the italian food onboard.?..because it's my favourite! The goal of this cruise is upscale, relaxed (elbow room is appreciated), and less 'family style' than our Freedom of the Seas cruise in January since we are going solo on this one (its our Anniversary). I was looking at the sky suites. The decor looks very tasteful, and it looks roomy without being too much room for just two people.

Millennium has dry saunas in the locker rooms by the Solarium. These are "no charge", and they are single sex.

There is also the Persian Garden in the same area. It has a steam room, a dry sauna, a Turkish Bath and ??? (something else --- can't recall), plus a relaxation area. This area is co-ed. There is a charge and I believe you can purchase packages or single-use. You may want to search "Persian Garden".

I used the Persian Garden for the first time a couple of weeks ago on a sea day. There was practically no one there. It was nice ... not really my thing, but if you like steams you would probably like it there.

Just got off her. As mentioned, the thallasotherapy pool is free. The configuation of the lounge chairs in the solarium is wonderful. I have never felt so comfie in a lounge chair. There is a steam/sauna by the changing rooms between the solarium and fitness center. These are free. The Persian gardens have a sauna, steam and turkish bath with 2 showers that have rain fall water and sheets of water. There are also heated tile benches. This costs $20 per person (as I recall). We loved it! We went into the sauna and then to the thalassotherapy pool and back to the cool showers then into the turkish bath (our favorite). We alternated between cool, fresh water showers and the turkish bath. Then we finally wrapped ourselves in towels and rested on the tile bench. The lighting is dimmed and very relaxing. We wished we had brought our Kindles into the relaxation room to read at the end.

Bring plenty of bottled water. I found the desalination process to be insufficient and between that and the thallasotherapy pool I was thirsty and bloated the whole time. The bottled water (as I have been advised on these boards) should solve that problem.

The fitness center did get crowded at times, but it was more than sufficent and I used it every day.

Personally, I found the food lacking, but that's a subjective thing. We also enjoyed playing cards and chess in the card room. There is a coffee bar just outside and I would get a glass of wine sometimes and bring it with me. They also had a snack area near the card room, so we spent some delightful time by the window, watching the water and playing cards with a drink and a snack.... ahhhhh.

The comedian was very good. The rest of the shows were nominal. It is a quiet ship, but one that is truly conducive to relaxation and self-pampering.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer.

You mention that 'we' used the sauna, turkish bath, etc. so does this mean the persian garden area is co-ed or is there a separate one for males and females?

Went on the Millennium a bit over a month ago. It was our 1st Celebrity too, having been on about a dozen cruises....lots on Royal Caribbean & a mix of Carnival, Norwegian, Costa & Holland. Our cruise just before this had been on the Allure of the Seas. I was initially concerned about the ship being worn out as it is about to be refurbished. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. No, it was not "perfect" but for the most part it was fresh & in good repair. All in all, we found it to be soooo relaxing (we only had 1 port), we did lots of reading on deck & there were tons of quiet areas, very few kids. No problem getting a chair, except in that solarium area....

We looked into that extra access to the spa pass but I was not that impressed with what it included...they don't have the heated loungers that I enjoy. Since you already have access to the steam room & pool, we didn't bother to pay the extra.

We found the food to be better than most of our other cruiseline experiences. Perfect? No. But still overall, very good. We had one meal in the Olympic/Olympia dining room...it was 95% excellent but my filet was a bit tough & I don't think it should be for the extra $$. Decor was not great either, but everything else with the experience was perfect.

The sea-day dining room grand buffet was over the top & really beautiful.

We found the entertainment to be very good, especially since it was just a 4 night cruise. There was plenty going on but for the most part, we chose to relax.

By the way, while onboard we booked our next Celebrity cruise on the Equinox so, I guess that says alot about how much we enjoyed our 1st Celebrity experience!

The 'aquaspa' cabins appear to be sold out for our cruise

When is your cruise? The Millennium currently has no Aquaspa cabins; these are being added during Solsticizing in April. For cruises before then, they show up as "sold out".

We are booked on the Millennium in early March with our two college daughters. First time on Celebrity. We are hoping the nightclub will be hopping that time of year!
