Flying into FLL, sailing POM

Hi- We are flying into FLL in March the day before our cruise. The next day we are leaving out of the port of Miami. I'm considering a few different options as to where to stay/how to get to POM from FLL, etc. Do we stay in the FLL area and rent a car to POM? Is there a rental car drop off station near POM? Take a shuttle from FLLto POM? I'm looking for the most cost effective solution with not too much hassle. Where to stay??Any suggestions as to what worked best for you would be great.

We flew into FLL, stayed at the Fairfield Inn in FLL, rented a car from Hertz at the FLL airport and returned it to their 1st Street location in downtown Miami and used their free shuttle to get us to the port. We used LMT and got the room - King bed for $69, and our AAA discount for the car and got it for $62. Very convenient, and it gave us a car in FLL to look around and pick up last minute supplies.

Hotels are usually cheaper in the FLL area compared to downtown Miami close to POM. If yo ustay in Miami dump the rental car before checking in to avoid $25-30+ per day parking fees.

There are no car rental facilities at POM. Both Avis and Hertz have downtown Miamim offices close to POM and several car rental agencies (National/Thrifty and others) will shuttle you to POM from their MIA aiport location.

Or leave the driving to others - there are several shared shuttle services (SAS, QLS, Go Airport) who will take you from the FLL area to POM (about 35-45 minutes away) for fares starting at about $15 per person - they can get you back to FLL after your cruise for the same fare. A taxi on the same run will cost $85+

Good luck! :)

I'd take a shuttle. They will pick up up at your hotel and take you to POM cheap, easy. I've used QLS - that's Quality Limo Service. Very good folks, very reasonable, very good prices. Follow their directions and they will do everything to make it work well for you. If you have a hotel with a shuttle from the airport to the hotel then you'll be set up well. On return, QLS will pick you up at the pier and take you to FLL. When they drop you at the pier they will show you exactly where they will pick you up and they will have a dispatcher there and load you.YOU MUST HAVE A RESERVATION AND BE ON THEIR LIST, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO JUST PICK UP PASSENGERS NOT RESERVED AHEAD OF TIME. Make reservations on the their website. Call them to talk to them about specifics for be sure.
