Hi there, can anyone offer me some detailed advice about what the male of the species is expected to pack for a two week cruise on Azura (over Christmas and New Year) We have cruised the Caribbean before so no problem there but we were on a far far less formal ships!! I have insisted that he bought a dinner suit and shirts + bow tie - what else is essential please?

Also is anyone else an experienced scuba diver cus my hubby is looking for a dive buddy to go diving off some of the islands. He has booked on two trips but can cancel or make other arrangements etc if there are more interested folk? Thank you

As has been said Dinner Jacket good for formal nights - over 90% of men wore a Dinner Suit for formal evenings. For semi-formal a jacket, shirt and trousers are fine - some men will wear a tie but this is not compulsory. There was an officer at the entrance to the Dining Room on our semi-formal evenings and any men not wearing a jacket were asked to go and put one on. For casual evenings a lot of men will wear something like chinos and a short sleeved shirts. Dark jeans can be worn but we didn't see many men wearing them. Hope this helps.

When we were in the Caribbean a little under 2 years ago on Ventura there were only two dress codes formal and smart casual, a dinner suit or lounge suit with tie or bow tie was the norm for formal nights smart casual was just that when as long as you're sensible and not wearing shorts, scruffy jeans or trainers more or less anything goes.

Yeah, Ventura and Oceana don't have the semi formal dress code, but the other ships, including Azura do.

Essentials are: shoes, trousers and shirt for all nights; jacket for informal nights; tie, bow or otherwise, for formal nights. That's the essentials, and you need to worry if he hasn't got them.

As for anything beyond that, it's optional. Wear what you/he want to wear. Worrying is pointless and unnecessary - you're on holiday.

Except Oceana DOES have semi-formal (or smart as it is now called) for her winter cruises - just to confuse matters more!

Don't worry on our last cruise a man wore trainers and dinner suite.White

trainers at that.

Anything goes now especially on P&O.

Perhaps it was a genuine mistake? Maybe he only found that didn't have his dress shoes when he got onboard?

Accidents can happen, and mistakes can be made.
