scottbee Posted January 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2012 Is there anything we should do? or should I just plan on eating in the steakhouse and staying onboard? Tons to do, and in late May the sun wont set until well after 9. The parliament buildings (Victoria is the provincial capital) and inner harbour are worth seeing. Butchart Gardens (I would recommend a tour from the ship) are lit up at night, and it's a lovely stroll in general.
Langley Cruisers Posted January 10, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2012 Victoria is beautiful and should not be missed. There are literally dozens of threads here on this Canada board about this city. I realize the timing of your visit is not optimal and others have asked about that as well. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1437624&highlight=victoria http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1409649&highlight=victoria http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1114143&highlight=victoria http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1450848&highlight=victoria . Putterdude Posted January 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2012 Be a bit guarded about Butchart Gardens, they are only open until 10 pm so with a 7:30 arrival you likely won't make the gardens much before 8:30 so your time is quite marginal. However there are many other things to see and do including horse drawn carriage rides, buskers on the Inner Harbour Causeway, some shopping..... www.victoriacarriage.com/ http://www.tallyhotours.com/ http://www.causewayartists.ca/
cruiseryyc Posted January 10, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2012 Be a bit guarded about Butchart Gardens, they are only open until 10 pm /QUOTE] The gates close at 10 but they don't kick everyone out at 10. Besides in order to be back in town and onboard by 11:30, you would have to leave the Gardens no later than 10:30 anyway. I think two hours is plenty of time to wander Butchart Gardens; but wandering downtown around the Inner Harbour would also make a lovely evening. KelliKevin Posted January 10, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted January 10, 2012 Thank you so much for your responses. Do you know how we can arrange a tour of the city for four in advance? My husband doesn't like to go thru the ship because he hates buses. The house carriage sounds fun too. Can they take 4 adults? And do you know how much it is? Putterdude Posted January 10, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2012 I am not sure which tour you are interested in. The horse drawn carriages hold up to 6 persons and rates/carriage are listed on each of their websites.

Assuming you just want to see downtown, it's about a 10-15 walk into town from the cruise terminal (or an under $10 taxi fare). Avoid the ship shuttle, because it's a giant rip-off ($7.50/ea return); which is considerably more than a taxi for 4 ea way.
