asullnyc Posted January 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2012 We are booked on the NCL Gem and will be in Nassau on 3/1/12. My husband is on oxygen 24/7 and will not be able to walk from the ship to a taxi. Does anyone know of a service that will provide pick up at the ship and transport us to a taxi? NCL said they did not provide such service and that we have to walk to a taxi unless we book an excursion through them. We just want to go to the Atlantis casino for a few hours and not go on an excursion. If final payment wasn't made, I really would rethink this cruise and look for a cruise line that accomodates the disabled.

Rare Essiesmom Posted January 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Taxis do not go onto the dock to the gangway. But there are free shuttle vans from the welcome center back to the ships. EM
asullnyc Posted January 13, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 13, 2012 We are renting a scooter to use on the ship. My husband will also bring his walker to get on and off ship. I am so happy to learn about the van shuttle. That will really help. If they can't fit his walker in the van, I'll walk it to the taxi and meet him. Thank you. Why not swap the scooter for a power chair ? I toured Nassau in my power chair last month - - - no problems
kitty9 Posted January 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2012 The taxis pick up right at the dock....do you have a wheelchair for use on the ship? No they don't. Taxis cannot come to the dock area and you have to walk the very long pier, go outside of the pier area and to the street. I know this because when my mom had to be evac'd off Celebrity after breaking her hip, the ambulance driver had a tough time with security letting them get to the ship. There were no taxis right there at the dock, but only on the street. OP, what I saw was one of those little covered golf cart vehicles, a long line of them with about 6 to a "train" and that's what took people off the pier and to the entrance of the cruise terminal. I didn't see any accessible shuttles and when I had to leave to follow my mom to the airport, they had to use a wheelchair to get me to where the taxis are located.
