retiredbrit Posted January 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Talking to Americans on our table on Q Victoria, they were somewhat amazed to hear that it is difficult if nor impossible to book a holiday or cruise unless you have a recognised and comprehensive travel insurance. So cruising without insurance is never an option Once you reach 75 years then if you can get insurance the premiums go up it is usually necessary to go to a specialist broker. Also many basic annual travel policy's wont cover for travel to US on the basis medical and repatriation costs are too high. There are of course many that do cover this but we had to shop around. The company we had been insured with for years just changed their regions of cover. Alan
klfrodo Posted January 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Here in the States, we are NOT required to purchase additional travel insurance when we go on Holiday. Although, I cannot afford to go without, some people choose to self insure and travel without additional insurance.

hansi Posted June 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2013 The one thing I have found that it is nigh impossible to get travel insurance if you have a condition that was diagnosed less than a year ago. I have a very mild heart condition( amongst other things) which is not life threatening, but I can't get cruise insurance anywhere. And I have tried dozens of companies:mad: I am 69, 70 in November.
