kruzerci Posted January 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2012 I finally made the switch after watching realizing 4 nights wasn't going to be long enough on the Jewel. We downgraded from a JS to a balcony to cover the cost difference, but I think we made the right choice in the long run by adding three extra nights. I'm concerned about sailing from the gulf coast in the winter because of the fog and cold, but I'm willing to try it at these prices with the balcony discount... and we cut our drive to the port from 8 hours to 4 1/2. We may not like leaving from NOLA, but we loved the Navigator six years ago and we (hopefully) will have several nice days in the Caribbean. I'd love to hear from those who have sailed on Voyager from New Orleans. I'll be reading reviews for months now...!

ocolus8109 Posted January 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2012 Wise choice. You will be glad to have extra time. Take extra time to explore New Orleans if you have it.

Weather was not bad coming and going, jackets of course were needed. But once in the Caribbean the weather was awesome. You are never guaranteed good weather. We sailed Oasis the first time in June a year and a half ago and had lots of rain. Didn't spoil our trip though, we had a blast. So even in summer weather can be bad. We loved sailing from NOLA and will probably book the Navigator as well.
jackretired Posted January 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2012 We are booked for Dec 1, 2012. :>) Read the home port board. Join your roll call. Before you sail, see NOLA. Two of my favorites are Snug Harbor for jazz & Muriel's Jackson Square for food.
