Ship excursion or on our own -Discover Mexico Park

We will be in Cozumel from 1-9pm . Would like to hear good and bad from anyone who has done this or has visited the park. The ship is charging 30.00 for 1 1/2 hours.Thinking of just doing on our own and then heading to a close beach for a quick visit before sundown.

Is this a quick taxi ride or walk?

My mother and I had a wonderful day snorkeling at Chankanaab, if you are there from 1 to 9, it might be an option for you to see as well...I think the park closes at 5, tho..
