Cost of Cruising...Let's Do the math

I totally agree. When I read MickyD and Appby I laughed out loud! The food and other included amenities on a cruise make it far cheaper than land travel.

 

LOL at comparing a cruise lunch and dinner with McD's and Appleby's. Good steak dinner for two $50? Whaattt??? 10yrs ago at Sanibel Steakhouse my steak was $38!!

Just as a comparison for a cruise/holiday cost from the Antipodes.

Including air fares to the USA we average a daily cost of USD $520 per person for 2014/5.

 

This has increased from around USD $470 per day per person since 2011.

 

Must confess, this includes a cruise, air fares from Australia, hotels, food, car hire and all other costs.

 

If you acknowledge the exhorbitant cost of booking a US cruise from down under, at our grossly overcharged prices, the OP could live it up first class in comparison to our costs!

Cruising is not only cheaper than land travel. You don't have all the other travel and waiting times going between places

To do more of an area I do b2b covering same or mostly same ports

Plus if it is a distant or awkward to reach place cruising is ten times better

Some destinations can be as cheap as cruising, but both have their advantages. Being Canucks, about 2/3 of our travel budget is usually eaten up by airfare, so for us, those prices aren't really relevant.

 

The advantage of cruising to me is that you get to see a little bit of a lot of places.

 

The advantage of staying is that you get to see a whole lot of a little place.

 

For us Cuba is a deal. We can stay a week with flight included for $1700 for two adults in a nice all-in resort. (a quick search without hunting for deals - flight out of Toronto.) I hear that Dominica is similar price/quality wise. But the food can't compare, and the shows are not as good as on the cruise. Child care is a joke. But on a cruise, its hard to match that price once you roll in the flights.
