NW Pacific Posted January 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2012 Have a flight arriving in Newark 6:00PM (on a Thursday) American Airlines. Need to get to Quebec for a Cruise. There is a flight same night departing at 9:15pm on United/Continental. Question, never been to EWR, know we will have to go to baggage, collect bags and head to check in desk for next flight. Is this doable, is there a tram system that is user friendly for newbies. How Is getting from baggage claim back to check in? We could schedule a flight the next day to Quebec but would really like to get all the flying all over with in one day. Many thanks
First Time 2008 Posted January 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2012 If your AA flight is domestic and on time, this is doable. Both AA and CO Express use Terminal A. Try to get AA to send your bag to CO, they may be willing to do it. Regardless, you will still need to exit security and reenter. But even if you have to claim bags and recheck them with CO, this is doable provided your inbound AA flight is no more than 1.5 hours late. Fattony Posted January 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2012 Why do you know you'll have to collect your bags? Because it's two separately-purchased tickets? If bought as one itinerary, the bags should be transferred. If two separate tickets, do as suggestd above and ask, when you check-in for your first flight, on AA, if your bags can be checked-through to Quebec. You may still have to gt in line to get your boarding passes from UA for your second flight (ask in advance), but it would save time. We are assuming you're arriving on a domestic flight. NW Pacific Posted January 29, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 29, 2012 Yes they are two separate tickets, the first leg is using FF miles, PDX-EWR- returning via Tampa. The Newark to Quebec will be bought separately. Could not get a FF ticket going to Quebec. Will ask about getting bags checked through, thanks for the advice. DanJ Posted January 29, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2012 You should be able to print your boarding passes at home for both flights. Then ask AA to check your bags through to YQB. If they do, then I beleive you would only have to go to your next gate (whether that involves exiting and re-clearing security I don't know, but if so, it still beats having to go through the check-in process again as well). Well, no, you wouldn't be able to get an AA FF ticket to YQB because AA doesn't fly there. They do, however, fly to YUL, so I wonder if that would be an option. You could then either fly, take the train, bus or even rent a car and drive to Quebec. I suggest this because that EWR-YQB ticket won't be cheap, unless you get some sort of seat sale.
