jjgarv2 Posted January 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2012 We will be docking at Crown Bay and in the past we took a cab to Redhook to catch the ferry over to STJ. It appears that there is a ferry from the harbor in Charlotte Amalie which would save cab fare and time....anyone have experince with this ferry? TIA

The time it takes you to sail from Charlotte Amalie south and east toward Red Hook is more than the time it takes you to ride in a taxi to Red Hook. Also, the ferry from C.A. and back goes a lot less frequently than the one from R.H.
blue_water Posted January 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2012 agreed, take the Red Hook ferry, that also gives you the option of enjoying a drink or lunch in Red Hook if you want or even hitting Sapphire Beach just down the road as part of your tour. kcparrothead Posted April 9, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2012 I'm a bit surprised to read these opinions of leaving from Charlotte Amalie! We've left from Red Hook before, but after looking at the times of leaving Charlotte Amalie& the fact that they work for us, we are thinking of leaving from there. The cost is only $2.00 more per person, but we would save about $40. in cab fare for the two of us! I think we're going to try it this time. Like I read in another post, it would be better spending that extra 30 minutes on the water rather than in a cab!
Ms411 Posted April 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2012 The biggest problem with the Charlotte Amalie/STJ ferry is the schedule usually changes in either April or May, and sometimes they suspend service for a while, because the demand drops off. The Red Hook ferry is consistent.

cruisegal96 Posted April 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2012 I agree with several of the others, the Charlotte Amalie ferry doesn't run as frequent as the Red Hook ferry & it takes around 45 minutes vs a 20 minute ferry ride from Red Hook.
