What happens to unused OBC

Look at the fine print for the OBC. Is it refundable, or non-refundable? If you added the OBC to your account/bill, that set of OBC will be returned to you if unused.

/never had this problem of "unused OBC." ;)

I am having a difficult time grasping that concept myself:).

*laughing* We are OBVIOUSLY using the wrong coupon codes! :D

We have $900 OBC for the two of us on our next 7 day cruise. It will be a challenge to spend it all, especially in Bermuda where you don't need to do excursions. $250.00 of the OBC from the TA is supposed to be refundable that we can use for the DSC so that helps. I'll probably decide how many FCCs to buy later in the cruise when we see how we are doing getting it spent.

As far as how you know what is refundable and non-refundable OBC. The second full day of your cruise either check the TV (Gem/Epic) or stop at Guest Service to get a copy of your bill. It will clearly show how much of each you have. Last cruise in Oct, the TA's OBC ending up being $100 refundable and $100 non-refundable. We got a check back for $94.00 three weeks after the cruise for the left over refundable OBC.

Yeah, we don't have that problem... *laughing* Specialty dining, spa services, spa passes, kid's club hourly charges, excursions, dessert wine chasers, port wine after dinner...

As WaldosPepper said, AMEX $500, Latitudes Monthly Promo $150, TA $250.

Bermuda was part of the Latitude promo for December so it is not available unless they offer it again.

It's kind of like the Island of Misfit Toys, but those are understandable. Unused OBC....really?

1.Buy a round of drinks for all the people you just met.

2. Go all crazy and buy a piece of jewelry, perfume a T-shirt that says "All they got me was this loozy t-shirt with their unused OBC"

3. Call me, I can help....really I can or my 16 year old daughter can be your personal shopper, $900 for her is just a work out, she may not even break a sweat.

Don't worry I won't let any of the $900. go unspent.:D I just said it would be a challenge....not that I wasn't up to it, LOL. Last cruise we bought 4 bottles of Captain Morgan for the adult kids and t-shirts for the grandkids....this time we'll do FCC's since I only have one on hand right now.

But doesn't that give you more OBC to dispose of?;)

 Our last cruise we started with $900 obc, then we had a Huge issue while bording and then we were rerouted which resulted in more OBC. Then our excursions were canceled( due to being rerouted from Bermuda to Orlando) which again turned into onbord credit. We made our excursions new things to do on the boat as Orlando and the Bahamas we had visited too many times. Over $1700 for just the two of us when all was said and done. We walked off the boat being refunded $ 3.76. Ohhh what fun we had!! I learned 3 card poker, went to the spa, bought a watch, drank moet, ate very well and we had the cruise of our life!:D

Have fun with it!!

If for some strange reason we don't use up all of our OBC what happens to it. Do they credit it back to you?

This sounds so strange to me...we have 900 also for our cruise in three weeks. We will probably spend another 1000 above that. We eat in the specialty restaurants every night....we have several excursions planned, some gambling, drinking, tastings....gone gone gone

  • 1 year later...

We will be on a 9 day Baltic cruise in September and have $500 on board credit.

We want to reserve pay restaurants in advance and will not be taking any shore excursions thru the cruise line.

We can't use the OBC for the gratuity charge, the casino, or anything we prepay.

What other than alcohol and the ship store can $500 be used for?

We have our first suite and are wondering if butler and concierge tips can be paid with OBC.

I know this may seem like a dumb problem but I don't think we will drink $55 a day.

Thanks

Yes you can use your OBC for butler & concierge tips. Since you are in a suite there is absolutely no reason to pre-pay any restaurants. The concierge will be able to get you a reservation once on-board. The only exception might be the Tappanyaki which books up quickly and you might want to pre-pay that if you need a specific night. You can also use you OBC towards the spa.

Go to the casino and charge the remaining amount to your account. Then cash in the chips that you'll receive at the cage. Simple.

That's super smart.

We had $1240 once for my family of 5 in 3 cabins (due to Early Savers Carnival rate + Military discount etc). $350 went to gratuities. We had soda cards, accupuncture treatments for DH & DD, Chef's Table for 3, Steakhouse for 3, gift shop booty etc. We're not big drinkers so alcohol wasn't a way for us to get the total down. I think my DD's coffee bill was more than our bar bill. We walked off the ship with something like less than a $50 charge total for the 5 of us. :D
