Belize

We're sailing on Liberty of the Seas on March 31st. We've never been to Belize before. Can someone tell me about the port? Is there a beach nearby? We're traveling with our 6-year-old daughter and many of the shore excursions are 8+. What should we do? Thanks!

It's also not a good idea to go out on your own. The port is fenced off from the city for a reason and security is pretty high. We went to Altun Ha mayan ruins. Not sure if there's an age limit for that. I know snorkeling is good there, but there really aren't any beaches close by as the shoreline is rocky and not sandy.

Cave tubing is one of the most popular excursions in Belize. We did it with my daughter when she was about that age and had a great day. It's not a wander around on your own port of call. :)

I would echo the comments about needing to plan an excursion for Belize. We often plan to walk off the ship and see what happens, but I wouldn't suggest doing that in Belize.

We did the tour to Lamanai with our children, who were 4 and 6.5 yrs at the time. Yes it was a long day, but the tour is phenomenal and you get to see quite a bit of the country on the way to and from the ruins. If history and museums aren't your thing, this may not be a good choice, but I wouldn't automatically discount this tour.
