If you've recently sailed from SJ and are platinum or above can you advise if there is express checkin? I've been reading about the long lines to check baggage and the check in but have read that there is express at the port too, would be interested to know before I sail from there in April.

Thanks.

That depends on what you mean by express check in.

There is a priority check in line for certain Crown and Anchor levels (I think Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle) and suite guests in the outside lines. The outside lines are controlled by U.S. Customs agents.

The lines inside seemed to go by deck #.

There was no outside priority luggage line for our December cruise. Someone did post there was a special line after our cruise, but I can't verify that is true. Once inside there were lines by deck and one by status (Platinum, Diamond, Diamond Plus, and Pinnacle).

Getting into the terminal was a huge problem. They lock the door once the terminal is full (maybe 100-150 people). On our cruise, lines were around the parking line at 1:30. We didn't board until after 1:00. The later in the day it was, the longer the line seemed to be.

I spoke with someone in Miami about the long lines and no accommodation for people with medical issues who can't stand two hours in a slow-moving line (no outdoor seating and no wheelchairs). She said they would bring this problem up with the port authorities but RCCL does not control anything at the port.

The check in lines in San Juan are the longest I've ever encountered. My group had priority check-in for our cruise in December, and we were able to enter the facility within minutes of dropping off our luggage to the valets.

The check-in line outside the facility was long, and we saw more than a few unhappy faces.

Additionally, once we entered the facility we had to wait in the "priority" line for about a half-hour. There were several people in our line or the suite guest line that were not diamond/above or suite guest, but were escorted there by staff.

My wife and I found the staff to be very unorganized. Also, there are far less computer check-in terminals than at other ports.

It's not the worst experience, but certainly one that can be improved.

I just got off the Adventure last week. We arrived at port at 11:30am. We waited about a half an hour in one line to drop off our luggage and than proceeded to another line to get into the terminal. That took about another 30 min and than at the terminal took maybe 10 min to get seapass card and we were than aboard the ship around 12:45. So overall took a little over an hour by the time we arrived, it was a bit chaotic but nothing horrible.

I am emerald and did notice that there was a priorty line for Platinum and above, it was to the inside of the two lines. There you could drop off your luggage (didn't have to wait in line) and than had their own line to get into the terminal, wasn't much shorter than the main line but than again it was earlier inthe day. That line didnt seem to open up till around Noon but would have saved some time if you arrived a little later.

Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for this, we usually get to the port early but we are doing the dreaded 'flying in on the day' and don't land until 12.20 but as I get priority boarding I wasnt sure if that meant for luggage drop off too, Oh well, just have to keep looking at the ship and enjoy the sunshine if the line is long.

Our experience was similar January 29th. We got there at 11:00, were on board at around noon. There is a line marked for C&A priority but they weren't using it yet, maybe it opened up later. When we were there everyone was in the same line to drop off luggage, then got in another line to enter the terminal. We got in and onboard quick and I can't complain, but overall the employees outside seem pretty clueless and unorganized.

This is basically how our Jan. 21st boarding of Serenade went.. I actually thought it was the quickest we've ever boarded in any port!

We left the Intercontinental just after 11 and the lineup for priority luggage check-in was longer than the regular line. After dropping our luggage and getting inside, there was no lineup at Deck 8 check-in and we sailed through. We were also in the Windjammer at noon. :)
