Hotel in Orlando/Transport to Port Canaveral

Hi everybody,

Just made reservations for a 4 day cruise out of Port Canaveral. We are most likely flying into Orlando the day before. Not really planning on anything exciting while in Orlando that day.

Looking for suggestions for a relatively inexpensive hotel for 1 night that provides transport to/from the port.

Thanks.

your best (and probably cheapest) option would be one way car rentals. most agencies (budget, avis) have locations right near the port (cape canaveral) that offer free shuttle service to and from the port. you can then stay in any hotel you want and return the car then take their free shuttle to the ship.

Boo214 is correct. Several of the car rental agencies will let you drop off the car at their Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach location and shuttle you to the pier. You then just have to arrange for transport from the pier to the airport when the cruise returns. That way you have a car to get around in the night before. Lots of good hotels in the Cocoa Beach area to choose from - a few of the more popular ones I've seen: Country Inn & Suites, Radisson at the Port, and Courtyard by Marriott. This thread has a lot of good information from a guy that works down there: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1119114&highlight=port+canaveral

You can also rent a car to get back to Orlando . If you are flying out the day you return , maybe consider the shuttle to Orlando provided by the cruise line.

We have stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Cocoa Beach , they have a reasonable breakfast included in the price (in 2008).

We went out of Port Canaveral a couple of years ago. We rented a car and stayed at the following hotel which was great. Then we rented a car to get back. Depending on what time your flight home is that is the best way IMO.

Radisson Hotel Orlando - International Drive

8444 INTERNATIONAL DRIVE

ORLANDO, FL 32819

Saw this on a roll call and used it for our trip in Sept. Cut our rental car price in half!

Budget rental car code Y937800 was $30 for 24 hours each way. We get to the port two days early and stay at the Radisson resort at the port. So we will have the car for a day.:)

Just make sure you don't wait to fill up the tank when you get back to the general vicinity of the airport. Prices there are jacked up as much as a dollar and prices are not always clearly posted. Get off the expressway a few miles from the airport to top off the gas tank before you return the car.

There are TONS of relatively inexpensive hotels, however if you're not going to do anything in Orlando, why not book something near the port instead? Orlando hotels can be a VERY mixed bag.

Thanks for all of your suggestions:)

Had another idea which makes sense to me. We could fly in to Tampa and rent a car for a 1 way trip each way.

We have family in Tampa and could avoid a hotel charge as well as get in some good visiting time since we rarely see them. Flights to Tampa seem less expensive than to Orlando currently.

We stayed at the Radisson at the Port. It was five minutes from the cruise port. They do have shuttles to the port also. We went in May and got a great price online for $89. :D:D:D We used Cocoa Beach shuttle from Orlando airport to the Radisson. Got 10% off when we mentioned we were a member of cruise critics.

We also sailed the "Dream" and loved it! Enjoy your trip!:):)
