Frankie Sue Posted February 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Hi everyone, We are looking at a South America itinerary on the Veendam and are interested in the Lanai stateroom. Has anyone been in one of these staterooms on the Veendam and do you know whether all Lanai staterooms are the same size, or are some larger than others. From the pictures on the Holland America website, the Lanai look quite small. As always your input will be greatly appreciated. Good cruising to all.......... Mary Ellen Posted February 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2012 The lanai cabins are smaller than the outside cabins on other decks. They are smaller than the inside cabins across the hall.

RuthC Posted February 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 13, 2012 The lanai cabins are smaller than the outside cabins on other decks. They are smaller than the inside cabins across the hall. And the lack of drawer space could make storage a problem, especially on this itinerary. Those cabins used to have six drawers at the desk. All those were removed, and the desk moved and made smaller, when the cabins were converted. I don't know if there are drawers under the beds; there did not used to be, and there still aren't in the insides across the way. Closet space will be at a premium because you will need both hot weather and cold weather clothes. A coat is a must, as are sweaters and sweatshirts. Those take up much more storage space than t-shirts. If you need to make shelving in a closet, then things are going to be tight.
Frankie Sue Posted February 13, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks everyone and especially Ruth for the photos... The lack of space would indeed be a concern, especially on the 18 or 31 days itineraries that we are looking at. As we say food for thought! govols1 Posted February 23, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2012 We loved our lanai cabin. We had a guarantee and ended up with a handicap cabin and it was significantly larger than others. You cannot go wrong with a lanai.
falcon10156 Posted February 23, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 23, 2012 Got back on the 26th of Jan from the 17 day South America & Antarctica Itinerary. LOVED the Lanai stateroom. It gave easy access not only to our side of the ship but we could access the other side to real well if the captain announced something on that side. (No elevator or stairs needed for that). We had clothing for three seasons (summer/spring and winter) with us plus formal and smart casual. We had everything out of site and out of our suitcases. It is smaller which may mean a lack of storage. There are two drawers under the bed (beds -if you split them) though and enough room to put your suitcases there too. We were able to put our carryons (2) and suitcases (2) under the bed. The drawers are usually used (at least one of them) for the other size bedding but a call to housekeeping removes though and gives you more storage. Extra hangers were also available. We asked for an extension cord (they gave us a power bar) and were able to charge everything on the desk. We had everything removed (extra sheets) except the lifejackets obviously from the closet and that gave us enough room. We also had our winter coats, boots, and excess clothes for the Antarctica landing. I would definately book a Lanai room again if the ship I had had one.
