FloatingSunGoddess Posted February 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2012 How do you get you liquor home? Is it checked luggage? Does the airline charge like it was a bag? Does it make it home without breaking or being stolen? Thanks for any info?

zqvol Posted February 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2012 It all depends on where you buy it. When we fly out of San Juan or St. Thomas we buy it after clearing security on the way home and carry it on with us. When we fly home from MIA or TPA we don't even bother. The amount saved on the liquor is offset by the cost of transportation. How do you get you liquor home? Is it checked luggage? Does the airline charge like it was a bag? Does it make it home without breaking or being stolen? Thanks for any info? If you buy it other than in the duty free stores in the airport, it must go in the cargo hold. If it cannot fit in your luggage it is checked through as a second bag at whatever fee your airline charges. If it causes you bag to be overweight (the weight depends on the airline between 40 and 50 lbs) you are charged the overweight fee. Purchasing liquor on a cruise that originates on the mainland is generally not worth the effort unless you drive.
pcvtmom Posted February 18, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2012 We've had it break rolled up in clothes, so we always pack lots of bubble wrap now. Due to baggage fees, however, we seldom bring much back anymore unless we are driving to port. It can quickly put a bag over the weight limit!
