GloriaF Posted February 19, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2012 When we did the Panama Canal on the Coral, in Costa Rica the ship was diverted to the other side of the island due to high winds. I'm not even sure what the name of the port was, but we explored and found a beach to enjoy for the day. It was lovely! Have you checked the Port of Call board for Costa Rica? Many souvenier items for sale there. For tours, we have had much success going through the ship's tours and writing a list of the parts of all tours that interest us. Then take the list to a taxi or van driver and work out a tour with him. He will know how many of the points you can take in with the time you have. Also, you can work out the details on the price. Some interesting things we have seen are the "crocodile bridge" rain forest, Sarchi, Monkeys near Puerto Caldera, Coffee plantations, etc. You may also do some research on the internet before you go to start your list of interests. pilotdane Posted February 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2012 Gloria, I hate to point out (OK, It's a bit fun) that neither the country Costa Rica or the town Puntarenas are Islands. ingleby: What type of things do you like to do or what do you want to do? Costa Rica is known for it's eco tourism though it does have it's share of touristy stuff. There is no Margaritaville or Hard Rock in Puntarenas so it's not the best port to walk ashore and drink, though it can be done. You can visit coffee or banana plantations, tour a mangrove, visit a cloud forest, do zip lines & aerial trams or just wander around.
