Monaco fashion (and casino)

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all, so I think this is my 5th question of the day! Sorry I am on a roll and questions keep popping in my head!

One of the stops on our cruise is Monaco. I know the casino has some kind of dress code. What would you wear to look nice but still be comfy for lots of walking?

We will be there when the Grand Prix is going on so I am sure people will be dressed up.

I was thinking of a black cotton dress from Loft, black/tan wedges, and a scarf? Anyone have experience with being in Monaco during the Grand Prix?

Hi....

From what I remember the dress code kicks in after 5:00, after the tourists leave........when I was there we were gone by 4:30.....after 5:00 men must have on a jacket.......that is why the tours time it accordingly...........the casino is old world elegance.....I felt that I needed my tiara (grin).........too bad I left it at home (grin).

When we where in Monaco the casino didn't open until 2...you have to carry your passport and they charge a fee to go in...we decided not to bother as there was so much more to see...but we did stand out the front and have our photos take:D

Just so you know why you have to carry your passport its because Monagesques are not allowed to gamble in their own country...so you have to show you aren't from Monaco:)

We will be there when the Grand Prix is going on so I am sure people will be dressed up.

During the Grand Prix weekend, the Casino opens only at 7 p.m. Daytimes, the race track leads around the Casino and its beautiful terraces; no chance to go there except you hold a ticket / reservation for the Café de Paris or the Fairmont Hotel.

Daytimes you need comfortable clothing since you will have to do a lot of walking if you want to see the town. The inner city around the port is the race track and therefore closed to the public.

That weekend, guests in Monaco are really dressing up for the evening. However, down in the port area there is a BIG open air party and pub hopping is the favorite pastime all night long. No dress code there, "everything" goes, from jeans and t-shirt to cocktail dress. Thrilling: To walk along the piers to have a look at the superyachts... there are parties on deck every night and it's ideal for people/celeb-watching.

Again, all those activities require a lot of walking, despite that the local bus system is running on a modified itinerary, covering all parts of town. Taxis are hard to find that weekend.

Enjoy your stay in Monaco during the Grand Prix. It's truly exciting!

Last time we were there, they would not allow anyone in wearing athletic shoes/sneakers. Gents had to wear long pants.... no short shorts for ladies.

Maybe they have loosened that but more likely not.

Youi can go to one small side without paying a fee but to enter the major casino, there is a fee.

Hope it is OK to resurrect this thread. We are going to be docked in Cannes during the 2014 GP - well on Saturday for Qualifying. I'm curious to hear about experiences with this. Our goal is to buy tickets to the Qualifying and then we just have to figure out how to make our way to/from Monte Carlo. We depart Cannes by 6pm so I know we will need to allow time to return to the ship.

Does anyone foresee that as a problem with timing and trying to attend all 3 qualifying sessions?

It's disappointing to hear that the casino is closed until 7pm on race days, but certainly understandable!

Hi, I am the OP :) Just so you know... we were there during qualifying race and casino was open, we went in around 2pm. The dress code was super lax that day, I think my dad was in flip flops. However I dressed up, and there was no need to. You can see my review in my signature.

HI I am the OP just thought I would update. We went in on a qualifying day, YES the casino was open! We went in around 2pm? And my fiance and I dressed up because we worried about the dress code. However, they were very lax during the dress code for the race! My dad was in flip flops and shorts and they let him- no problem whatsoever.

They only let us stand on the stairs of the casino overlooking the race for a few seconds before we had to go inside. The casino was dead inside.

Yes there was a lot of walking, I regretted wearing nice sandals. You can see the review in my signature.

Thanks for this! I jumped ahead and read about your day in Monaco. That is a bummer, but not surprising, that spectators are not given an option anywhere to see the race. My hubby has done some checking and it appears there is really only one train to Monaco, was that the case for you? We have been discussing whether or not we want to buy tickets to qualifying, but now we are concerned that it would be a waste of money if we get there after it starts and have to leave before it ends. We just really need to look into the timing of everything. Fortunately we have some months to do that!

Off topic: My first Celebrity cruise was aboard the Solstice and we had a C3 level room as well. I so love the service they provide and that ship is beautiful!

Yes, there was one train. From Villefranche it took no time! However, like you read in my review there was a strike so it took 2 hours? I think total to get back because of the strike. Also beware of pick-pocketers on the train platform and on the train. My dad wore his rolex and I was paranoid the whole time! The guy next to us on the train had his wallet stolen.

Awesome! Are you going on X again? We just booked another X cruise for our honeymoon :D

I was hoping to talk the hubby into one this fall, but I think we are headed to Austin for F1 instead. I guess there is some big mechanical change planned for next year - new engines - and he wants to be there to hear the roar of the V8 before it's gone.

enjoy your honeymoon!! :)
